Looking to spend some time exploring the countryside in the all-new 2015 F-150?

TOP-ford-truck-camperNow it’s possible to sleep comfortably inside a Ford-branded camper, thanks to recreational vehicle builder Livin’ Lite.

Livin’ Lite and Ford Motor Company have agreed to license a line of Ford-branded aluminum-constructed truck campers for the all-new aluminum-bodied 2015 F-150 pickup truck.

Beginning in 2013, Livin’ Lite began working with Ford designers to adopt design cues from the aluminum-body F-150 into their aluminum campers.

The 2015 F-150 is up to 700 pounds lighter than the 2014 truck, and Livin’ Lite campers are typically 30 percent lighter than the competition. This weight-saving combination is designed to improve fuel efficiency for RV customers.

The Ford truck camper will incorporate a new and unique fiberglass front nose cap. The exterior of the camper will be fiberglass with full-body paint to match the 2015 Ford F-150.

“I can’t tell you how excited we are to work with a company as prestigious as Ford and bring their iconic brand name back into the RV industry,” said Scott Tuttle, president of Livin’ Lite. “Ford believes enough in our unique aluminum construction to allow us to carry the ‘Built Ford Tough’ label, which says a lot.”

The debut Ford-branded camper model design will appear at the 52nd Annual National RV Trade Show, December 2-4 at the Kentucky Expo Center in Louisville, Kentucky.

Additional Ford truck campers are also planned. There will be a Ford F-series of campers to match Ford F-250 and F-350 trucks. The design lines will work with those models as well. All truck camper floor plans will work well as Ford truck campers.

Livin’ Lite plans to release other models in time for sale in 2015. The lineup of Ford-branded RVs will include tent campers, travel trailers, truck campers, toy haulers, and fifth wheels for sale through Livin’ Lite dealers.

In the 1970s, Ford had a dedicated RV division with a team of engineers and marketing professionals. In 1973, Ford debuted the American Road, a molded-fiberglass truck camper that was decades ahead of its time.

The 11.5 foot Ford American Road was designed to match Ford trucks and featured a basement with heated and insulated holding tanks, a full-booth face-to-face dinette, sprayed on urethane foam insulation, and a 100,000 mile, 40-degree below zero durability test.

Today, Livin’ Lite licenses Ford trademarks and is fully responsible for designing, engineering, and manufacturing Ford-branded recreational products with input from Ford Design.

Elkhart, Indiana-based Thor Motor Coach (TMC) introduced new additions to the Tuscany XTE, Hurricane, Four Winds, Axis, Windsport, Chateau, and Vegas motorhomes at the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association’s (RVIA) 52nd Annual National RV Trade Show, December 2-4 at the Kentucky Expo Center in Louisville, Kentucky.

TMC continues to raise the bar on innovation that has customers talking as if the floor plan was custom-made to fit their own personal taste, said Kara Terman, marketing coordinator, in a company news release.

The Tuscany XTE 40AX focuses on entertaining the masses. Reclining theater seats are positioned directly across from a 60-inch LED Smart HDTV. The TV retracts into the counter below when it’s not in use, giving way to a view of the outdoors.

The 40AX also features an additional 40-inch LED TV, which is convenient when sitting down at the dinner table. Preparing meals and storing the leftovers is a breeze with the residential kitchen appliances, standard in every Tuscany XTE motorhome.

“The custom-built Amish cabinetry will amaze and delight, looking like it came out of a coach costing thousands of dollars more,” said Terman.

The Tuscany XTE motorhome lineup gains has added two new floor plans with the addition of the 40BX, the first in the XTE lineup to offer bunk beds. TMC implements a unique three-door arrangement that gives the bunk area complete privacy from the living area of the coach.

“Bunk beds have been so popular in gas motorhomes that it only made sense Thor Motor Coach introduced it to their Class A diesels,” she added.

“TMC puts a twist of their own by implementing a unique three-door arrangement that gives the bunk area complete privacy from the living area of the coach. Kids will feel like they truly have a bedroom of their own, especially when it comes time to watching their favorite cartoon or DVD on their own bunk TV.”

Thor Motor Coach has created a better solution to those wanting a coach with two bathrooms, she noted.

The Hurricane and Windsport models now have a “half-and-a-bath” in the 35C floor plan. Instead of placing the full bathroom in the rear and the half bathroom in the middle, they switched the locations.

“People can enjoy true privacy and not have a guests trudging through your bedroom to take a shower,” said Terman.

“TMC paid close attention to owners’ needs with this floor plan and created an astounding amount of walk space in the bedroom, a multitude of dresser and closet space, and a variety of sleeping areas.”

TMC didn’t forget the entertainment aspect and answered it with theater seating and the Always-in-View 40-inch LED TV, she explained.

The models also provide theater seating and the “Always-in-View” 40-inch LED TV.

Thor Motor Coach’s “Recreational Utility Vehicle”, referred to as the RUV, continues to grow with the addition of the 25.2, available in Axis and Vegas RUV brands. The RUV is sized like a large SUV, and drives like one, but offers so much more, said Terman.

The 25.2 is the first in the line-up to feature a bedroom slideout that houses a walk-around queen size bed with a Denver Mattress. The L-shaped sofa with a removable pedestal table provides a place to eat, a place to watch TV, or a place to sleep.

“Excitement surrounds the 29G, which is available in both Four Winds and Chateau motorhomes,” said Terman.

“Thor Motor Coach understands Class C owners want convenient and functional amenities outside as much as they do inside. To respond to the demands, they now offer an exterior kitchen as standard on the 29G. The exterior kitchen features a refrigerator, kitchen sink and portable gas grill. To go the extra step, you can opt for an exterior 32-inch TV as well.”

“Our dealer partners were really drawn to the Oakmont at the Open House and, as a result, we were able to place a lot of orders,” reported General Manager Kary Katzenberger, adding the new floor plans would debut at at the 52nd Annual National RV Trade Show, December 2-4 at the Kentucky Expo Center in Louisville, Kentucky.

“Now, we’re seeing fast turns on the sales lots, which indicates the Oakmont is resonating with consumers as a true value piece in one of the industry’s most hotly contested segments.”

“Our goal when we developed Oakmont was to offer high-end, residential styling, and amenities at an unprecedented price point. With an MSRP of around $54,000, we’re packaging in standards and options across the line that no one else in the industry is offering, including hydraulic leveling jacks and slide rooms,” Katzenberger added.

The two floor plans set to debut in Louisville extend Oakmont’s positioning as a diverse brand targeting full-timers and younger RVers with families—key demographics in the high-end fifth-wheel market. Oakmont currently comprises four floor plans with two more models planned for a February, 2015, rollout.

The 41-foot 395QB Oakmont offers a family-oriented, bunkhouse layout that includes an outside entertainment area with 32-inch TV, four large bunks with access to a 1/2 bath, and a dinette slide on the “camp” side of the coach.

“Our research showed that a popular feature with consumers is being able enjoy a view of their campsite when having a meal,” Katzenberger said.

The 345RS is designed as a couples coach, offering a comfortable, residential environment that caters to entertaining or relaxing.

The 36-footer is set off by Heartland’s proprietary “Mega Slide” in the dinette area, featuring a 7-foot-2-inch ceiling height and panoramic windows. The living area centers around a 50-inch LED TV with surrounding recliners—power theater seats are optional—that face the entertainment center for optimum viewing. A fully equipped kitchen offers a spacious work area along with ample storage.

Heartland President Chris Hermon emphasized that the Oakmont brand was the result of extensive product development, integrating input from customers and the company’s dealer body.
