Thor Motor Coach Offers Rapid Camp Wireless Control System

Elkhart, Indiana-based Thor Motor Coach announced the introduction of Rapid Camp on select 2015 Class A and Class C motorhomes. Rapid Camp is a wireless control system made to fit today’s modern motorhomes.

This Linc Remote System technology allows owners to set up camp quickly at a distance of up to 50 feet away from the motorhome. Features that can be operated include the leveling jacks, slide-outs, generator, patio awning, and patio light.

With Rapid Camp, owners can watch their leveling jacks and make sure there’s no obstructions or dips in the ground, according to a company news release.

An auto-level button brings convenience to the table and only takes 90 seconds to set the jacks. Owners can also operate their slide-outs and monitor the process to safely avoid tree branches and other obstructions.

“Rapid Camp was launched on several brands this past year and it’s been a successful selling feature,” said Jon Krider, vice president of product development at Thor Motor Coach.

“It definitely simplifies using the coach for our customers. This Linc Remote System technology provides customers with easy access to their most-used features and allows them to be outside of the coach while operating jacks and slide rooms.”

He added, “For instance, if a rain storm rolled in and they were visiting a neighboring coach, they could simply retract the awning using the Rapid Camp without getting wet!”

In a separate news release, Lippert Components, Inc. (LCI) announced that Thor Motor Coach is now using LCI Linc Remote System technology for its Rapid Camp wireless control system on several of its Class A and Class C motorhome brands.

“Thor Motor Coach is the first company to use the Linc in a motorhome application, and that’s exciting because motorhome users don’t have to be standing in the center part of their motorhome to operate multiple functions anymore,” said LCI Body Division Product Manager Chris Ganshorn explaining the benefits of the Linc Remote System.

“Instead, Linc allows them to remotely control key functions from as far away as 50 feet, providing them a more convenient set up they can safely monitor from outside the motorhome.”

Models equipped with Rapid Camp include the 2015 Challenger, Miramar, Hurricane, Windsport, and Outlaw Class A brands and the Outlaw, Four Winds, and Chateau F-550 Super C Class C models.

Lippert Introduces Power Step For Motorhomes

Elkhart, Indiana-based Lippert Components Inc. introduced its new aluminum Tread Lite Power Step for motorhomes.

Tread Lite Power Step
Tread Lite Power Step

The lightweight Tread Lite Power Step’s all new solid-drive mechanism allows it to extend and retract quicker, while providing more stability.

“For years the RV industry has been asking for a better, firmer power step, and our design team has again exceeded expectations,” said LCI Vice President of RV Sales Andy Murray, in a news release.

“The new Tread Lite Power Step has an upgraded drive system, coupled with a sleek European look. It is also designed to stand up against the elements with durable aluminum step treads.”

LCI’s research and development team collected customer feedback and conducted extensive research and testing to develop this premium Power Step, the company said.

LCI Motorized Sales Manager Marty McManus described the Power Step as quicker, stronger, and much more stable.

“We started from scratch on the design of this step and made substantial improvements,” he said. “The step features attractive aluminum extruded step treads which deploy and retract noticeably faster.”

The Tread Lite Power Step also features obstruction-sensing technology for added safety. A smart sensor monitors for obstructions during step extension and stops deployment if any are found.

McManus said the Tread Lite Power Step will be made to standard dimensions to fit current designs, but its extruded construction allows for custom sizes as well.

He added, “For those who really want to set themselves apart, the linkage brackets can be color powder coated as well.”

The Tread Lite Power Step for motorhomes will also be available to LCI’s aftermarket customers.

Mobile Outfitters Introduces All American Hitch

The Mobile Outfitters, the aftermarket division of Lippert Components Inc. (LCI), has released the All American Hitch, a smoother and virtually maintenance-free, fifth-wheel hitch for towing RVs and cargo trailers.

Designed with air cells that absorb the energy transfer between the tow vehicle and the trailer, the All American Hitch provides a quieter ride with less vibration than traditional fifth-wheel hitch systems, according to a news release.

The revolutionary new hitch comes ready to attach to standard mounting rails, and can also be adapted to most under-bed, square gooseneck attachment systems, as well as the Ford Puck system.

The All American Hitch has a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) up to 22,000 pounds. With a height adjustment range from 12.5 to 17.5 inches, the All American Hitch can be mounted in either the center position of the truck bed rails or three inches to the rear, providing a tighter turning radius. The fully articulating head isolates the tow vehicle from trailer movement to aid in hooking and unhooking at various angles.

“The All American Hitch is designed to be the smoothest, quietest and most flexible fifth-wheel hitch ever produced in our industry,” said Sonny Dismuke, Mobile Outfitters product development manager.

“It is incredibly durable and literally requires no maintenance because it needs no lubrication.”

“This new hitch system is another example of how The Mobile Outfitters is continually introducing products that enhance the mobile lifestyle,” said Mobile Outfitters General Manager Steve Paul.

The Mobile Outfitters All American Hitch

“We’re also proud of the fact that the All American Hitch is built with parts that are 100 percent manufactured and assembled in America.”

Benefits of the All American Hitch include:

  • Air cell technology diminishes energy transmission between the tow vehicle and trailer for a smoother ride
  • The system’s five air cells can easily be inserted or removed, allowing users to adjust the ride to make it softer or firmer, depending on what is being towed or the expected terrain (this allows the All American Hitch to work with a range of fifth wheel sizes and weights)
  • Gold zinc plating will not chip like powder-coated paint
  • The side-to-side pivot has an adjustable tension feature to control movement when traveling unloaded (rubber bumpers keep the fore and aft head movements quiet as well)
  • The skid plate is clad with Whisper Disk technology for ultra-quiet maneuvering and is made with permanently lubricated Never Fail bearing material that is guaranteed

September RV Manufacturer Recalls

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has recently announced four recall notices involving three recreational vehicle manufacturers— Fleetwood RV, Heartland RV, and Trails West Manufacturing of Idaho—and one manufacturer of RV component parts—Lippert Components.

Fleetwood RV, Inc.

Decatur, Indiana-based Fleetwood RV, Inc. is recalling 74 model year 2013 Excursion motorhomes manufactured from March 27, 2012, through July 24, 2012.

A threaded fastener installed on the turn shaft of the slide-out mechanism may come into contact with a portion of the diesel fuel fill hose while the turn shaft is rotating. If the fastener makes contact with the fuel fill hose, there is a possibility that it will abrade the fuel fill hose and cause a leak.

Leaking fuel, in the presence of an ignition source, increases the risk of a fire.

Fleetwood RV will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and, as necessary, shorten the threaded fastener to achieve clearance of the fuel line free of charge. Owners may contact Fleetwood RV owner relations at 1-800-509-3418.

Fleetwood RV’s safety recall number is 120813FRV.

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to safercar.gov.

Heartland RV, LLC

Elkhart, Indiana-based Heartland RV, LLC (Heartland) is recalling seven model year 2011-2012 Elkridge and model year 2012-2013 Bighorn Silverado fifth wheel vehicles.

Certain vehicles manufactured with liquid propane (LP) generators may have the LP supply line connected incorrectly to the generator.

If the LP supply line is connected incorrectly, the generator may vent liquid propane into the generator compartment. In the presence of an ignition source, the vented propane can result in an explosion.

Heartland will notify owners and dealers will inspect and correct the LP supply line fitting as necessary, free of charge.

Heartland has not provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Heartland at 1-888-262-5992.

Heartland RV’s safety recall number is 99-01-09.

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to safercar.gov.

Trails West Manufacturing of Idaho, Inc.

Preston, Idaho-based Trails West Manufacturing of Idaho, Inc. (Trails West) is recalling 34 model year 2010-2012 recreational horse trailers equipped with Sure Power battery separator devices, due to overheating.

Overheating of the battery separator can result in smoke and possible fire.

Trails West will notify owners, and Sure Power will replace the battery separators free of charge. Trails West has not provided a notification schedule.

Owners may contact Trails West Manufacturing of Idaho, Inc. at 1-208-852-2200.

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to safercar.gov.

Lippert Components, Inc.

Goshen, Indiana-based Lippert Components, Inc., d.b.a Extreme Trailers, is recalling 143 model year 2011-2012 boat trailers equipped with Carlisle Transport Products brand wheels installed as original equipment.

Lippert also sold approximately 118 wheel and tire assemblies for aftermarket use on various recreational vehicles. These wheels were manufactured with machine dimensions for the application of a center cap and the application of steel lug inserts that were not controlled to the required specifications. As a result, the wheel may not be tightened to the proper torque during the mounting process.

If the wheels are not tightened to the proper torque, the wheels could loosen, leading to wheel separation, possibly resulting in a vehicle crash. A detached wheel also becomes a road hazard.

Lippert will notify owners, and Carlisle Transport Products dealers will repair or replace the affected wheels free of charge.

Lippert has not provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Lippert Components at 1-574-312-6113.

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to safercar.gov.

LCI Solera Offers Leak-Free Slide-Out Sleeve & Slide Topper

Lippert Components, Inc., reports positive interest in its new RV aftermarket slide-out sealing systems known as the Solera Slide-Out Sleeve and Solera Slide Topper.

RV dealers who have tested the products are finding that the Solera Slide-Out Sleeve and Slide Topper are virtually maintenance free cures for leaky slide-outs, and they are easy to install, said Andy Murray, LCI vice president of sales.

“The best part about these products is that they can be added as an option at any time to any RV on the market today,” Murray explained.

“We encourage dealers to ask their OEMs to add it to the list of options available on their product lines. We believe that their customers will thank them.”

“Most RV manufacturers only cover adjustments and sealants on slide-outs for the first 30 to 90 days of ownership. The Solera Slide-Out Sleeve and Slide Topper continually protect the roof and sealant on the slide-out box from the sun, water and winter conditions,” added Murray.

The Solera Slide-Out Sleeve attaches to both the slide room and the outside wall of the RV, creating a complete seal around the entire slide room. Dust, smoke, leaves, bugs, and debris are blocked by the sleeve against entering the interior of the RV-even when the slide room is retracted back into the RV.

The Solera Slide-Out Sleeve from Lippert Components insures dust, smoke, leaves, bugs, and debris are blocked by the sleeve against entering the interior of the RV even when the slide room is retracted back into the RV.

Murray said the Solera Slide-Out Sleeve has also been praised by customers for its ease of use and superiority to other solutions. More and more dealers are choosing the Solera Slide-Out Sleeve as an installation option, and are asking OEMs to install Solera Slide-Out Sleeves on their product lines, he noted.

Murray explained why the Solera Slide Topper is also gaining popularity, “We feel the Solera Slide Topper is a great fit for those looking to save costs over conventional slide awnings, save on weight, and have a more streamlined and updated look when the slide room is in the travel position.”

The Solera Slide-Out Sleeve or Slide Topper offers these features:

  • No mechanical parts to break
  • Velcro strapping eliminates wind issues found with awning toppers
  • Slide-out Sleeve helps prevent leaves, dust, bugs, and debris from entering the slide-out
  • Water no longer pools on top of the slide-out
  • No springs to bend or break
  • Velcro strapping installs easily
  • A cost effective alternative to awning toppers
  • Ice slides right off
  • Clean, fresh look

“Today more than ever, OEMs are upgrading the exterior appearance of their units with items such as full paint, upgraded graphics or automotive style frameless windows,” said Murray.

“The Solera Slide-Out Sleeve and Slide Topper are just such quality upgrades. It also is one of those rare cases where you can achieve an upgraded look for your RV while reducing cost and weight and improving performance.”

Lippert Introduces Tire Linc for RV Safety

Goshen, Indiana-based Lippert Components, Inc. announces it has enhanced conventional automotive tire pressure monitoring systems (TPMS) with the new Tire Linc for recreational vehicle safety.

Tire Linc is re-engineered specifically for informing RVers on their tire status.

Tire failure and blowouts can result in serious accidents and is a major expense for RVers today. Lippert Components’ new Tire Linc monitors tire pressure and temperature to inform the tow vehicle driver with critical information that an event may occur, according to a news release.

“The Tire Linc system was designed especially for the RV and the mobile lifestyle,” explains Vice President of RV Sales for Lippert Components, Andy Murray. “As a tire fails due to puncture, de-lamination, or improper psi, friction increases which results in an increase in temperature. Tire Linc is designed to alert the driver of these critical changes in temperature and pressure as they occur.”

Lippert Components, dedicated to improving the mobile lifestyle, engineered the new Tire Linc TPMS to monitor both the tire psi and temperature of up to ten individual tires on both the RV and tow vehicle.

Tire Linc is easy to program and includes a wireless monitoring receiver with remote valve-stem sending units that are easy to install.

The new Lippert Components Tire Linc TPMS incorporates an internal valve stem transmitter on the tires of both the tow vehicle and the RV, enabling the driver to monitor both tow vehicle and RV at the same time. The new Tire Linc system is also perfect for use on motorhomes and busses of any size.

The Tire Linc TPMS features include:

  • Tire Linc Pressure and Temperature Monitoring: The monitoring system includes a wireless display that is easily programmable and expandable to ten tires on both the trailer and the tow vehicle. An alarm system alerts the driver of pre-set dangerous temperature and psi levels.
  • Easy to Install Wireless System: The wireless system is easy to install and program for both OEMs and aftermarket users. Unlike automotive systems, Tire Linc is designed to easily reconfigure and reassign tire position after tire rotation.
  • High Capacity Batteries Independent of the Vehicle: High capacity batteries increase the Tire Linc longevity. Higher wireless transmission speeds reduce battery consumption for longer life.
  • Improved Radio Frequency (RF): A custom designed RF repeater has a robust frequency to improve monitoring while decreasing RF power requirements.
