Atwood Air Command A/C Units Are Available

Elkhart, Indiana-based Atwood Mobile Products LLC announces the availability and shipment of its new Australian-designed Air Command line of high-performance air conditioners.

Atwood Mobile logoThe Atwood AirCommandair conditioner is designed to quietly deliver the class leading performance with better function and more features than anything on the market today, according to a company news release.

The Air Command line is available in ducted and non-ducted versions to Atwood’s OEM partners and nationwide aftermarket distribution network.

Atwood said that lab tests demonstrate that the Air Command has distinct advantages, which “challenge traditional standards the industry uses to brand Btu performance.” Units are listed as 16K Btu and 18K Btu equivalent.

“It wouldn’t make sense to brand our 16K equivalent model as a 13.5K if it outperforms the leading 15K,” said Director of Sales Bill Martin, RV OEM, noting that Air Command models easily retrofit into existing 13.5K and 15K Btu applications.

“In real world terms, Air Command uses drastically less energy input while providing more cooling output. Our 16K equivalent models are so energy efficient that we have been able to operate them via a single 2kW generator.”

Martin added that Air Command units also reduce noise level with assistance from V-Flow, a proprietary air distribution method.

“You have to hear these units in person to believe just how quiet they really are,” he said.

Atwood aircommandTrey Miller, director of aftermarket sales, noted, “There’s no question that Air Command is progressive, featuring 16K and 18K equivalent performance, but dealers and OEMs want to know about reliability, durability and serviceability. Air Command may be a new name to the U.S. market, but it’s nearly 80% of the market in Australia and has been a leading supplier there since 1978.”

Air Command models are available with black or white shrouds and feature independent dual motors, a programmable digital thermostat with energy saving sleep timer and convenient digital remote control. 18K Btu equivalent models feature a heat pump as standard equipment.

All units feature Atwood’s two-year warranty and are serviceable at over 1,800 certified Atwood service centers across the U.S. and Canada.

Ford’s RV Training Evaluates RV Refrigerators

Ford’s RV Training & Service has completed the first phase of the side-by-side refrigerator evaluation.

Ford'sRVServicelogoThe report, titled “Evaluation of RV Refrigerators: A side by side independent evaluation of Atwood and Dometic Refrigerators,” has been published on their business website. It details the products tested, test methods, and test results.

The first phase of the evaluation took more than three months to complete as the crew performed more than six different operational environment tests and collected more than 3,600 data points.

“Placing both the Atwood and Dometic refrigerators in adverse situations—even more severe than those called for in the standard—did not greatly affect the refrigerators. Both manufacturers’ models performed better than required, but there were differences,” said Roger Ford, owner of Ford’s RV Training & Service, in a news release.

To learn about the differences and other details of the research, the entire evaluation can be found he RV Training page (see link below).

Along with the extensive RV service they provide, they also offer global certified training in the field of RV refrigerator cooling unit reconditioning.

In 1994, they wrote and published The Ford Procedures, the first and only step-by-step technical manual on RV refrigerator repair and reconditioning; it’s used in conjunction with the training they offer.

In May 2006, they increased their training to include certification.

Atwood Introduces On-Demand Water Heater

Designed for use in recreational vehicles, Atwood Mobile Products’ On-Demand Water Heaters (ODWH) provides a continuous hot water experience.

Atwood Mobile logoAvailable in your choice of 45,000 or 50,000 BTU models, the high output burners are powerful enough to instantly heat and deliver a full flow of continuous hot water.

Best of all, it works just like home—simply turn on the water and mix cold to reach your desired temperature.

Over the past several months, Atwood has placed on-demand water heaters into retail consumer units for extensive real world testing, according to in a news release.

“These units were strategically located throughout the United States in order to expose them to a wide range of temperatures and conditions. Feedback from retail consumers using these test units has been extremely positive,” said Fay Flournoy, marketing associate.

“The Atwood ODWH is available in a 50,000-Btu model, which provides up to 50 percent more Btu output than any other large production unit on the market today.”

The Atwood ODWH offers the heating power and technology necessary to provide the comfort and ease of use of a residential shower in the customers coach.
Exclusive to the Atwood ODWH is a modulation valve that senses the flow of incoming water which allows the unit to adjust the burner flame based on hot water demand.

This is coupled with the fact that the Atwood ODWH can be installed in nearly any current water heater opening without any cutting or sidewall alterations.

How On-Demand Works

  1. Hot water tap is turned on
  2. Flow sensor detects flow of cold water coming in
  3. The burner is automatically ignited
  4. Water is instantly heated up as it circulates through the heat exchanger and out to the tap
Atwood Mobile Products’ On-Demand Water Heaters (ODWH) front view
Atwood Mobile Products’ On-Demand Water Heaters (ODWH) front view

An on-demand water heater does not use a tank, thus eliminates up to 115 pounds of dead water weight.

A flow controlled valve adjusts the burner input from 16,000 – 45,000/50,000 BTUs based on water flow rate (The slower the flow, the less heat that is needed). This provides for optimal operating efficiency.

Benefits of Atwood Mobile Products’ On-Demand Water Heaters (ODWH) include:

Performance – Class leading 45 and 50k BTU high output burners deliver more hot water, more days of the year

Operation – No customer training needed; turn on HOT and add cold to get desired temperature—just like home

Continuous hot water – No more RV showers; hot water is only limited by the fresh water supply

Save weight – No tank saves up to 100 pounds of unnecessary water weight

Energy efficient – Only uses energy when hot water is demanded

One size fits all – Designed to easily fit the rough opening for any brand of RV water heater

The Atwood ODWH is available in the aftermarket through major distributors and to OEM customers.

Keystone RV Introduces Atwood Helium Refrigerators

Elkhart, Indiana-based Atwood Mobile Products LLC recently launched the industry’s only RV refrigerator that utilizes helium in the cooling system and an integrated tilt sensor.

Atwood Helium Refrigerators

Atwood Mobile Products announces that the Atwood Helium Refrigerator is now standard equipment in Keystone RV’s Bullet, Passport, and Hornet product lines.

“As the name suggests, helium gas has replaced the hydrogen traditionally found in gas absorption refrigerators,” said Fayette Flournoy, Atwood Mobile Products spokesperson in a news release.

“Helium allows the cooling system to run at a lower temperature minimizing stress that can be caused by using a traditional gas absorption refrigerator in an out of level situation. An exclusive integrated tilt sensor also provides a visual cue to the consumer showing if the refrigerator is in an out of level situation.”

Atwood helium refrigerators are available in 7- and 8-cubic-foot sizes, and are also available in the aftermarket through major distributors around the country.

“While both models provide the largest cubic foot of storage in their class, Atwood helium refrigerators are designed to fit other brands traditional 6- and 8-cubic-foot cabinet openings,” said Flournoy.

Intuitive “PULL” handles make it easy to open the first time.

“Along with class leading storage, they also boast standard upscale features including built-in door ajar alarm, designer blue crisper bins and LED lights, intuitive door handles, and a modern display panel.”

Details

Helium Technology

The Atwood refrigerator uses a gas absorption system, but has replaced commonly used Hydrogen with nonflammable Helium. This was achieved by modifying portions of the cooling system and varying the charging pressure to compensate for the larger helium molecules.

Helium Refrigerators

Atwood Helium Refrigerators are designed to perform where traditional RV refrigerators fail. When used in an out of level situation, traditional RV refrigerators with hydrogen gas in the cooling system can generate excessive heat and compromise system integrity. Atwood refrigerators utilize a helium based cooling system strategically engineered to minimize excessive heat while providing superior durability and performance.

Upscale Features

Modern design, blue LED cabinet lights, blue tinted door shelves, and a standard door ajar alarm.

Integrated Tilt Sensor

The tilt sensor protects the user, with a visual, from potential hazards attributed to prolonged operation at severe angles of inclination.

Provides a visual cue for the consumer to ensure maximum performance of their refrigerator.

Popular Sizes

7- and 8-cubic-foot class sizes available with left or right swing door, and available fan for slide room applications.

Fan-Tastic Vent, Inc.

Over twenty-five years ago the company’s founders Stephen A. Milks (deceased) and David C. Struck (deceased) saw the need for better ventilation and air exchange in recreation vehicles and founded Fan-Tastic Vent Corporation.

Fan-Tastic Vent was chartered as a stock corporation in 1984 and began production of a 12-volt high efficiency ceiling fan a year later in Burton, Michigan.

The company employed four people and built approximately 2000 fans the first year. The production numbers increased each year as did the number of employees.

In 1995 they moved their assembly plant to Capac, Michigan. In an unfortunate turn of events, a devastating fire followed the move in January of 1997, resulting in a total loss for the company.
