The Viking Epic Series of camping trailers, manufactured by Coachmen RV, a division of Forest River Inc., has been named a 2014 Consumers Digest Best Buy in the “midrange” category.
Consumers Digest made the announcement in the May/June issue of the magazine.
“No other line that’s in this price range ($9,615-$13,401) delivers a better combination of creature comforts or a better warranty than does Epic Series, which is a repeat Best Buy selection,” the consumer advice magazine noted.
Chris Mandell, general manager of Viking Recreational Vehicles for Coachmen RV, said company officials were excited and elated when they first heard the news.
“We see this as quite an honor. A lot of people put a lot of stock in the advice and recommendations from Consumers Digest,” Mandell said.
The Best Buy achievement likely will figure prominently in future marketing efforts, he added.
According to Michael R Terlep, president of Coachmen RV, the Consumers Digest Best Buy status provides validation that Viking camping trailers are an excellent value for RVers.
“To receive this recognition is an honor and provides us reassurance that we are doing several thinks right; specifically that our innovative and practical designs combined with our product features and overall quality result in an exceptional value proposition,” Terlep explained.
“Now we are challenged with raising the bar and delivering an even better product.”
Being named a “Best Buy” means the product delivers “exceptional value for a given amount of money … based on its combination of eight criteria: performance, ease of use, features, quality of construction, warranty, efficiency, styling, and maintenance and service requirements,” according to Consumers Digest.
The Viking Epic series is available in eight floor plans with an exterior closed length of 12 feet 8 inches to 18 feet 3 inches and an exterior open length of 17 feet 11 inches to 18 feet 3 inches.
The 2105ST model which was singled out by Consumers Digest because “it’s the least expensive model ($13,095) we found that has a three-burner cook top, a toilet, and a shower as standard features.”
Somerset Camping Trailers was a Consumers Digest Best Buy in the premium category while the Jayco Jay Sport Line was selected in the economy range.
