Thor Motor Coach Report Successful RV Shows

From coast-to-coast, motorhomes from Thor Motor Coach have been a hit of retail RV shows.

Thor-Motor-Coach-RUV-Best-RV-Year“Every RV show so far this year is getting positive feedback,” said Joel Grimm, national sales manager for Class C and Class A gas motorhomes, in a company news release.

“Consumers are really enjoying the innovative product changes we are engineering into our gas-powered motorhomes,”

The new Axis and Vegas Recreational Utility Vehicle (RUV) Class A motorhomes have been the talk of the show circuit, said Grimm.

Sized like a large SUV, the unit measures just over 25 feet long, eight feet wide, and 11 feet tall, helping it fit into the tightest of spaces most traditional RVs can’t go. These small dimensions lower the overall center of gravity, to help safety and stability while driving.

A proven and powerful Ford V-10 engine has plenty of muscle for smooth highway merging, while sipping fuel along the way. A contemporary exterior with aerodynamic windshield and cap is extenuated by Thor Motor Coach’s exclusive HD-MAX, High-Definition exterior.

“These compact motorhomes continue to draw new people to the RV lifestyle,” he added.

“The RUVs are targeted at the same market as large automobile-based SUVs. The RUV eliminates all of the shortcomings of a traditional SUV by providing a self-contained environment including kitchen, dining, bathroom and sleeping facilities in a small 25-foot package.”

The Axis and Vegas also received the inaugural RV Business 2014 RV of the Year Award.

Other motorhomes that have had a major impact this show season include the Outlaw Toyhauler, now with a complete line-up of Class A and Class C motorhomes ranging from 29 to 38 feet. The new 2014 Tuscany Class A motorhomes have the diesel market fired up with all new exteriors and interiors, said Grimm.

For 2014, 40-foot Tuscany motorhomes now have all the high-end features found in the larger Tuscany tag axle models, including the Aqua-Hot hydronic furnace and water heating, ZF Independent Front Suspension and custom tile floor inlays.

“The Tuscany and Tuscany XTE are dominant players in today’s diesel market. Combined with the sweeping success of the already best-selling Palazzo and we have the ultimate one-two-three punch,” said Adam Gudger, national sales manager for Class A diesel motorhomes.

“All of our motorhomes are built with input and direction from our dealers and the owners which have helped us gain significant market share increases.”

Breckenridge Introduces LakeView Park Model

Leveraging its newly-formed partnership with Heartland Recreational Vehicles LLC, Breckenridge introduced the all-new LakeView destination trailer during the Elkhart County RV Open House, September 17 to 19.

Breckenridge LakeView destination trailer
Breckenridge LakeView destination trailer

The LakeView caters to a growing market of consumers looking for a destination trailer that can be pulled to a seasonal site or lakefront property, according to a Heartland Recreational Vehicles news release.

The line will be produced from a dedicated facility in Indiana’s Elkhart County that allows Breckenridge to build units year-round.

“We are very excited about this new product,” said Bob Phillips, Breckenridge general manager. “Breckenridge has always placed a major emphasis on the park model sector, but the market is changing. We want to be one of the first RV manufacturers that it truly committed to the destination trailer business.”

The LakeView features a comfortable, residential-style interior highlighted by panoramic windows to maximize scenic settings, Phillips noted, adding that in addition to several “set-apart” amenities, the LakeView would be sharply priced compared to the competition.

“Unlike other manufacturers, we will not operate in the travel trailer and fifth-wheel markets so we can focus on our two core segments—park models and destination trailers,” he said.

LakeView logo“I believe our dealers will find that very refreshing. By providing them with a very fair territory and year-round delivery of product, I am confident dealers will see this type of partnership as an opportunity to grow their business.”

Breckenridge, founded in 1991, has strong brand recognition with consumers as a forerunner in the park model and destination trailer industries.

“Breckenridge has an unbelievable name in Elkhart County,” said Chris Hermon,  president of Breckenridge.

“And in talking with dealers, I realized what a great reputation the company has across the country.

“It’s all about people and Breckenridge has put together a tremendous team. I expect Breckenridge and its LakeView product to hit the ground running,” he added.

Breckenridge will be displaying at the open house as part of Thor Industries Inc.’s expansive display at the RV/MH Hall of Fame.

Located at the RV/MH Hall of Fame in Elkhart, Indiana, The Thor Motor Coach also displayed a wide array of models from its existing line of Class A gas, diesel pushers, Class B+, Super C, and Class C motorhomes.

The new RUVs, aptly titled Axis and Vegas, were designed for the consumer wanting a small, easy-to-maneuver vehicle, but not wanting a traditional RV, according to a company news release.

Sized like a large SUV, the unit measures just over 25 feet long, eight feet wide, and 11 feet tall, helping it fit into the tightest of spaces most traditional RVs can’t go. These small dimensions lower the overall center of gravity, to help safety and stability while driving.

Frameless, automotive styled, windows continue the sleek styling on the exterior.

Although small in stature, the coach offers an innovative design with multiple sleeping areas, including a drop down overhead bunk. The rear twin beds even convert to a king-sized bed.

High-tech features include a six-inch touch screen display audio with camera display, iPod adapter with radio interface, and multiple USB and 12V ports along with 110V plugs.

For eco-conscious buyers the LED ceiling lighting reduces energy usage, while the window tint helps to reduce dependence on running the air conditioner.

“The new line-up of RUV is sized like a large SUV, and most importantly they are priced like one. A family can own one with payments that are less than most sport utility vehicles,” says Dana Simon, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Thor Motor Coach.

“We see this unit fulfilling a need those who are new to RVing, those who are seasoned veterans looking to downsize, and anything in between. The RUV product segment is going to grow as it answers questions concerning affordability and size some consumers may have with traditional larger motorhomes.”

The distinctive full-color exterior creates an upscale appearance, featuring upgraded high-gloss laminated fiberglass sidewalls complemented by a fully painted atrium design fiberglass cap.

“It’s a dramatic change, and really sets us apart from the competition,” said Nick Eppert, in a company news release, noting the Fairfield is still available as a traditionally built, aluminum-sided trailer.

The distinctive full-color exterior creates an upscale appearance, featuring upgraded high-gloss laminated fiberglass sidewalls complemented by a fully painted atrium design fiberglass cap.

Heartland also enhanced Fairfield’s interior decors, which proved to be a key selling point with consumers, adding new furniture designs along with updated countertops, flooring, and bedroom treatments.

“We understand where the destination trailer market is going,” said Heartland RV President Chris Hermon.

“I am pleased with our new aggressive look and styling in the Fairfield. We are very serious about destination trailers at Heartland and our dealers will be able to see that during this year’s Open House.”

The Fairfield lineup is being offered in six models, including the all-new 406FK, featuring “the perfect combination of a front kitchen and a bunk house,” according to Eppert.

All Fairfield units will continue to utilize wide-body construction with eight-foot sidewalls and a standard atrium design fiberglass cap.

In addition, floor plans are equipped with several residential appointments including a free standing range, 18-cubic-foot refrigerator, and microwave.

Eppert reported that dealers are energized about the full color exterior for the new model year.

“Wilkins RV picked up the Fairfield late last year at our Bath and Churchville, New York, locations,” said Brian Wilkins, president.

“Over this past year, our destination trailer sales have exceeded not only our previous year’s sales but also our own aggressive expectations. With better product and more models coming this fall, Wilkins RV’s expectations for next year’s destination trailer sales are even higher.”
