Excessive engine crankcase pressures may cause the 90-degree elbow of the vent tube assembly to detach from the crankcase ventilation breather, possibly allowing engine oil to come into contact with hot surfaces.

If the engine oil comes into contact with a hot surface, it can increase the risk of a vehicle fire.

MCI will notify owners, and Cummins service centers will administer the repairs which include securing the ends of the 90-degree elbow and reprogramming the electronic control module (ECM) with software that can adjust the engine output under misfire conditions to limit crankcase pressures. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on June 18, 2015. Owners may contact MCI customer service at 1-800-241-2947 or Cummins Inc. at 1-800-343-7357. Toy Hauler Motorhome Market Expands

A recent revitalization in retail sales for toy haulers has created many new options for those searching for an RV with garage capabilities.

Outlaw Class A motorized toy hauler

Thor Motor Coach continues to drive sales with its motorized toy hauler, the Outlaw.

Thor Motor Coach has recently released new floor plans and valuable camper conveniences aimed to fit today’s busy lifestyles, according to a company news release.

A new 37RB extends the Outlaw Toy Hauler’s desirability by adding a second slideout with a permanent Denver Mattress queen size bed. This dedicated bedroom provides privacy from other guests toward the front of the coach and even from those in the loft bedroom. Now the kids can have their space, while mom and dad get a bed that no longer has to be converted to sleep. This 37RB version keeps all the amenities of a traditional Class A motorhome, with the garage in the rear.

Known as the “Ultimate Tailgating Partner”, the “residential edition” 38RE fits into a unique category with an ultramodern bedroom featuring 9-foot coffered ceilings where the garage is customarily located. The 38RE was awarded the 2015 Top RV Debut by RVBusiness. It has an immense living area and the inventive rear “Patio Deck” folds down to reveal an exterior kitchenette, 50-inch big screen TV, and Bluetooth radio.

Whether you are interested in the Class C 29H toy haulers or any of the Class A Outlaw motorhomes, you will find Thor Motor Coach’s Rapid Camp on all units. Rapid Camp is a wireless control system allowing owners to set up camp quickly at a distance of up to fifty feet away from the motorhome. Features that can be operated include the leveling jacks, slide outs, generator, patio awning, and patio light.

When lowered, the bunk provides a comfortable sleeping space for two. When in the raised position, it is camouflaged into the ceiling and a great place to secure personal items while you’re away because it’s operated by a separate key.

The Outlaw is attracting buyers from many diverse backgrounds.

“We’ve found people are using this type of coach as more than just a toy hauler for hauling ATVs and motorcycles,” said Joel Grimm, gas division national sales manager for Thor Motor Coach.

“Owners are using the garage as a space for their animals, their antiques, and anything else that needs significant hauler capacity. We have even found a number of full-timers using the garage as their mobile office.”

The 2015 Outlaw Class A toy hauler motorhomes are available in three floor plans:

  • 37LS (Length: 38 feet 6 inches)
  • 37MD (Length: 38 feet 9 inches)

January 2015 RV Manufacturer Recalls

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has recently announced seven recall notices involving seven recreational vehicle/chassis manufacturers—Forest River, Lance Camper, Thor Motor Coach, Winnebago, Entegra Coach, Winnebago Towable, and Jayco.

Forest River, Inc.

forest-RiverForest River, Inc. (Forest River) is recalling certain model year 2015 Vibe VBT272BHS travel trailers manufactured July 15, 2014, to December 19, 2014. These trailers may have incorrect tire size and tire pressure information on the Federal Certification and Tire labels.

The information on the label lists the installed tires as ST225/75R15/C inflated to 50 PSI, however the tires that are actually mounted on the trailer are ST225/75R15/D inflated to 65 PSI. As such, these trailers fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 110, “Tire Selection and Rims and Motor Home/Recreation Vehicle Trailer Load Carrying Capacity Information for Motor Vehicles with a GVWR of 4,536 Kilograms (10,000 Pounds) or Less.”

If the tires are replaced with the tires indicated on the label, the tires may be insufficient to carry the load and a tire blow out may result, increasing the risk of a crash.

Forest River will send new labels to dealers and owners with the correct tire information, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin on January 5, 2015. Owners may contact Forest River customer service at 1-206-593-4005. Forest River’s number for this recall is 59-12232014.

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

Lance Camper Manufacturing Corp.

Lance 50th anniv. logoLance Camper Manufacturing Corp. (Lance) is recalling certain model year 2015 Slide-In Campers and Travel Trailers manufactured August 1, 2014, to October 27, 2014, and equipped with certain Latitude awnings manufactured by Carefree of Colorado. The mounting brackets of the affected awnings may crack, and the awnings may fall.

If an awning falls, there is an increased risk of injury to anyone under the awning.

Lance will notify owners, and dealers will remove and replace all the mounting brackets, free of charge. This began November 26, 2014. Owners may contact Lance customer service at 1-661-949-3322.

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

Thor Motor Coach

thor-255x144Thor Motor Coach (TMC) is recalling certain model year 2015 Challenger, Four Winds 5000, Hurricane, Miramar, Chateau Citation, Chateau, Windsport, and Palazzo motorhomes manufactured April 24, 2014, to December 11, 2014, and equipped with certain Latitude awnings manufactured by Carefree of Colorado. The affected awnings may have screws that attach the lateral arm brackets to the mounting brackets that were not manufactured to specification.

The screws could fail, causing the supporting bracket to fail, and the awning to fall and potentially strike and injure a person beneath it.

TMC will notify owners, and dealers will remove and replace the defective screws, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin January 26, 2015. Owners may contact TMC customer service at 1-877-500-1020. TMC’s number for this recall is RC000097.

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

Winnebago Industries

winnebago-quality-circle-award-255x144Winnebago Industries, Inc. (Winnebago) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Winnebago Trend, Travato, and Itasca Viva motorhomes manufactured November 13, 2014, to December 23, 2015. In the affected vehicles, the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) may fail to learn the locations of the individual sensors while the vehicle is being driven. As a result, the low tire pressure warning light will illuminate, despite the tire pressures being within specification. Should one of the tires lose air pressure, the driver would not be notified of the change in air pressure. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 138, “Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems.”

If the TPMS light illuminates because the sensors cannot be located, it could mask an actual low tire pressure condition, possibly resulting in tire failure, increasing the risk of a crash.

Winnebago will have Chrysler notify owners, and dealers will update the TPMS module software, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Winnebago customer service at 1-800-537-1885. Winnebago’s number for this recall is P62.

Thor Motor Coach Introduces New Floor Plans

Elkhart, Indiana-based Thor Motor Coach (TMC) introduced new additions to the Tuscany XTE, Hurricane, Four Winds, Axis, Windsport, Chateau, and Vegas motorhomes at the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association’s (RVIA) 52nd Annual National RV Trade Show, December 2-4 at the Kentucky Expo Center in Louisville, Kentucky.

TMC continues to raise the bar on innovation that has customers talking as if the floor plan was custom-made to fit their own personal taste, said Kara Terman, marketing coordinator, in a company news release.

The Tuscany XTE 40AX focuses on entertaining the masses. Reclining theater seats are positioned directly across from a 60-inch LED Smart HDTV. The TV retracts into the counter below when it’s not in use, giving way to a view of the outdoors.

The 40AX also features an additional 40-inch LED TV, which is convenient when sitting down at the dinner table. Preparing meals and storing the leftovers is a breeze with the residential kitchen appliances, standard in every Tuscany XTE motorhome.

“The custom-built Amish cabinetry will amaze and delight, looking like it came out of a coach costing thousands of dollars more,” said Terman.

The Tuscany XTE motorhome lineup gains has added two new floor plans with the addition of the 40BX, the first in the XTE lineup to offer bunk beds. TMC implements a unique three-door arrangement that gives the bunk area complete privacy from the living area of the coach.

“Bunk beds have been so popular in gas motorhomes that it only made sense Thor Motor Coach introduced it to their Class A diesels,” she added.

“TMC puts a twist of their own by implementing a unique three-door arrangement that gives the bunk area complete privacy from the living area of the coach. Kids will feel like they truly have a bedroom of their own, especially when it comes time to watching their favorite cartoon or DVD on their own bunk TV.”

Thor Motor Coach has created a better solution to those wanting a coach with two bathrooms, she noted.

The Hurricane and Windsport models now have a “half-and-a-bath” in the 35C floor plan. Instead of placing the full bathroom in the rear and the half bathroom in the middle, they switched the locations.

“People can enjoy true privacy and not have a guests trudging through your bedroom to take a shower,” said Terman.

“TMC paid close attention to owners’ needs with this floor plan and created an astounding amount of walk space in the bedroom, a multitude of dresser and closet space, and a variety of sleeping areas.”

TMC didn’t forget the entertainment aspect and answered it with theater seating and the Always-in-View 40-inch LED TV, she explained.

The models also provide theater seating and the “Always-in-View” 40-inch LED TV.

Thor Motor Coach’s “Recreational Utility Vehicle”, referred to as the RUV, continues to grow with the addition of the 25.2, available in Axis and Vegas RUV brands. The RUV is sized like a large SUV, and drives like one, but offers so much more, said Terman.

The 25.2 is the first in the line-up to feature a bedroom slideout that houses a walk-around queen size bed with a Denver Mattress. The L-shaped sofa with a removable pedestal table provides a place to eat, a place to watch TV, or a place to sleep.

“Excitement surrounds the 29G, which is available in both Four Winds and Chateau motorhomes,” said Terman.

“Thor Motor Coach understands Class C owners want convenient and functional amenities outside as much as they do inside. To respond to the demands, they now offer an exterior kitchen as standard on the 29G. The exterior kitchen features a refrigerator, kitchen sink and portable gas grill. To go the extra step, you can opt for an exterior 32-inch TV as well.”

“The number one reason people buy one motorhome over another is because the floor plan fit their needs or their lifestyle,” said Gary Stanton, product manager at Thor Motor Coach.

“We continually push ourselves to build new and innovative models for our valued dealer partners. We want them excited about the new line-up and to share their enthusiasm with consumers.”
