RVC Outdoor Destinations Completes Upgrades at Florida Resort

Live Oak Landing, an RVC Outdoor Destination vacation property, announced the completion of numerous improvements to the resort, just in time for the summer travel season.

The property added more than three dozen modern RV sites and several new amenities designed to enhance each guest’s stay.

A screen-enclosed saline swimming pool with connected observation deck and lounge area, large playground area, and air conditioning in the resort’s pavilion are among the new additions to RVC’s Live Oak Landing.

Handicap-accessible boat tours are another new feature highlighted at the outdoor destination. These charters—called “Pondtoon” boats—allow individuals with disabilities to navigate the water on vessels specially manufactured to accommodate wheelchairs. Additionally, RVC increased the number of RV sites on the property, nearly tripling the number of space available for RV travelers.

“When we opened the property in November 2010, it was important to us to first define our core audience and add amenities as our guests requested them,” said Neil Sorrell, general manager at Live Oak Landing.

“So, after talking to our guests, we pinpointed additions that will give them exactly what they’re looking for in a memorable outdoor travel experience.”

At Live Oak Landing, guests have access to Florida’s Emerald Coast beaches and a wide range of onsite activities, including fishing charters, scooter, bicycle and boat rentals, and activities pavilion with a flat screen TV. The outdoor vacation property also features unique amenities in line with other RVC Outdoor Destination properties such as concierge service, coffee, beer and wine bars, a dog park and a variety of lodging options from RV sites to cottages.

Live Oak Landing is the only provider of overnight accommodations in the city of Freeport and is one of seven RVC Outdoor Destination locations in the United States.

RVC Outdoor Destinations Launches Wounded Warrior Fishing Partnership

Memphis, Tennessee-based RVC Outdoor Destinations, the leading provider of high-quality outdoor vacation properties in the United States, announced the launch of its Wounded Warrior Fishing sponsorship, an initiative underscoring the company’s commitment to active and retired military personnel.

RVC Outdoor Destinations has partnered with retired U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. and current U.S. Coast Guard Capt. Mark McDuffie, to offer the program, which is designed to help soldiers injured physically or mentally in Iraq or Afghanistan relax and enjoy the outdoors with their families, according to a news release.

The Wounded Warrior Fishing program, headquartered at the company’s Live Oak Landing property in Freeport, Florida, will host an injured soldier and his or her family one night each week to enjoy the outdoors through activities such as fishing trips, river tours, onsite recreation activities and a cookout—all free of charge.

McDuffie first started the program a year ago, as a nonprofit called Wounded Warrior Fishing. Injured while fighting in Iraq and now fully recovered, McDuffie operates at the Live Oak Landing property and will head up the new partnership sponsored by RVC.

“Having been wounded at war, I can relate to what many of these injured soldiers are going through,” said McDuffie.

“I know that when soldiers suffer, their families do too, and while I can’t take away their pain or completely understand their particular situation, I can offer them time to relax with their families. At the end of the day, if we can put a smile on their faces for a few hours or for a weekend, we’ve done our job.”

Wounded Warrior Fishing and RVC will officially kick-off the program on Memorial Day weekend to coincide with the unofficial start of the summer travel season.

In addition to the weekly sponsored accommodations, Live Oak Landing will host 10 injured soldiers and their families during an end-of-summer celebration the last weekend of September. The group will be able to fish with local professionals, take boat rides on the Choctawhatchee Bay, eat BBQ from local restaurants, enjoy massages, and relax.

Besides the new Wounded Warrior Fishing sponsorship, RVC also offers active and retired military discounts on lodging, and several of its properties offer a free RV site rental for active service men and women through the Tents for Troops program.

RVC locations individually raise money for regionally based military charities through their own events and fundraisers throughout the year.

“RVC believes in taking care of the military men and women who have made a tremendous sacrifice for our country,” said Andy Cates, president of RVC Outdoor Destinations.

“We wanted to find a meaningful way to say ‘thank you,’ and for us that means giving them a chance to have some fun in the great outdoors with their families. The Wounded Warrior Fishing program is part of RVC’s corporate commitment to give back to these brave individuals. At each of our properties, we have different ways of reaching out to the military community, knowing that each region has unique needs. We’re always searching for new ways to show them how truly grateful we are for everything they have done, for all of us.”

RVC Outdoor Destinations Update Amenities at Florida RV Resort

Live Oak Landing, an RVC Outdoor Destinations in Freeport, Florida, has come a long way from its beginnings as McDaniel’s Fish Camp.

“It had honky tonks, and stills, and Friday night fish frys, and a lot of colorful characters lived here,” said Neil Sorrell, general manager.

But now, the stills have been exchanged for a saltwater pool, and those who gather don’t have to endure the elements because Live Oak Landing has a heated and cooled gathering place, The Walton Sun reports.

“We turned it into a 21st Century RV resort,” said Sorrell of the RVC resort, which hosted its first guest in November 2010.

The resort also added 39 RV sites in preparation for the summer travel season.

Though it has changed from its rustic beginnings, the resort hasn’t lost its charm.

With the overhanging oaks and situation on Freeport’s Black Creek, Live Oak Landing is the picture of tranquility.

“There’s nothing but peace and quiet,” Sorrell said, relaying one visitor’s remarks.

But here quiet is not synonymous with dull.

Amenities offered at the 74-acre retreat range from a dog park to nature walks to the newest addition, a screened-in saline pool, reports The Walton Sun.

Avid anglers will be happy to know, local veteran and founder of Wounded Warrior Fishing Mark McDuffie is on-site to offer fishing charters. With the resort just 1.8 miles from the mouth of the bay, fishermen and women can catch an abundance of saltwater and freshwater fish.

With such offerings, the resort draws visitors from as far as Canada and the northwest, but Sorrell says he is beginning to see more and more visitors come from Northwest Florida.

“As the price of fuel goes up, people ask themselves ‘Where can we go to have fun nearby?’ ” said Sorrell.

Nine one-bedroom mini-cottages are available per night at $89.99 and by the week at $539.94. One-bedroom cottages with loft spaces are $129.99 per night and $779.94 per week.

RV spaces on water are available daily, weekly, and monthly, at $44.99, $269.94, and $749.99 respectively.

Off-the-water RV sites are available at $40.99, $242.94, and $649.99 respectively.

The Walton Sun reports each RV slip comes equipped with 100-amp service, Wi-Fi, city water, and sewer.

Amenities at Live Oak Landing include:

  • Private boat ramp and dock for guests
  • Charter fishing service on site
  • Screened activities pavilion with flat screen TV
  • Free Wi-Fi
  • GoPet Scooter rentals
  • Bicycle rentals
  • Horseshoes and darts
  • Boat rentals
  • Canoe and kayak rentals

RVC Outdoor Destinations Expands to Western U.S.

RVC Outdoor Destinations, the leading provider of high-quality outdoor resort properties in the United States, recently announced its expansion West with its acquisition of the Garden of the Gods Campground in Colorado Springs, Colorado for an undisclosed price.

The roughly 13.3-acre property 200-site property is located near the entrance of the Garden of the Gods Visitor Center, with views of Pikes Peak, the most visited mountain in North America.

The property has been the top RV and outdoor lodging destination in the region but has been under bank ownership (Farmers Insurance Group Federal Credit Union of California) since 2010. RVC has begun stabilizing operations and will begin renovating the property immediately.

Renovations will include an overall upgrade of the property and its amenities, including enhancing tent sites and incorporating them into current on-property cabins for a unique camping experience, resurfacing pools, improving existing RV sites and adding eight new, concrete RV sites.

In the coming weeks, RVC will rebrand the property from Garden of the Gods Campground to Garden of the Gods RV Resort, and will re-flag it as an RVC Outdoor Destination by the start of 2013.

“The Garden of the Gods acquisition is a terrific addition to our portfolio of upscale outdoor vacation properties,” said Andy Cates, president of RVC Outdoor Destinations.

“The upgraded camping experience we offer is resonating with guests.  It fits with what a lot of people are looking for in a vacation these days because it is unique, affordable, and allows guests to enjoy some of America’s most beautiful natural landscapes with amenities that truly make it a destination experience.”

The Garden of the Gods is one of the most popular attractions in the Pikes Peak/Colorado Springs area.

In addition to its newly acquired Colorado property, RVC currently operates six Outdoor Destinations and RV Resorts in Arkansas, Georgia, Florida, and North Carolina.

RVC created the Outdoor Destination hospitality model to provide a variety of lodging options, including RV sites, cottages, and yurts, all set within unique natural environments.

The properties feature amenities, such as concierge service, a ‘bark park’ off-leash area, modern swimming pools, boating and fishing rentals, coffee, beer and wine bars, free Wi-Fi and cable, and a gift shop.
