Roadtrek Introduces New Eco-friendly Motorhome

Motorhomes may not known for their fuel economy, but Roadtrek plans to change that perception with its new 2014 environmentally conscious E-trek.

The 245 watt solar panel on the roof that charges the batteries in daylight (not just sunlight) and is an excellent battery maintenance tool.
The 245 watt solar panel on the roof that charges the batteries in daylight (not just sunlight) and is an excellent battery maintenance tool.

According to Kitchner, Ontario-based Roadtrek, the E-trek is designed and manufactured with three things in mind:

Environmentally Conscious: This E-trek product emits fewer carbon emissions and far more e-conscious resources and equipment are used in its manufacture and function.

Technology Advantages: E-trek uses the newest technologies to make the unit more functional and flexible for you. You get longer times off the grid while day tripping, weekending, and having fun.

Simpler Use: There is much less to do to use this unit than a conventional RV. You don’t have to learn much—just a little bit— and you have luxury travel at your fingertips.

The unit uses its primary fuel—diesel—to provide heat and hot water through its combined heating core. These appliances use less fuel than conventional propane or electric appliances, and are easier to use. No lighting the stove with an open flame. No plugging in is needed for electricity—unless you want to.

All other key functions of the E-trek are powered by electricity, and you have technology to deliver that:

Power is stored in eight 6V AGM batteries (1600 amp hours).
Power is stored in eight 6V AGM batteries (1600 amp hours).

Engine Mounted Generator: The 3.0 litre Mercedes diesel engine is used as the power plant to feed the electrical system, running everything when driving or parked. At idle it feeds 3.5 KW of power. When driving, it is even more powerful and charges at 5.5 KW. The Mercedes engine will run reliably to operate the vehicle, and your generator when needed.

Solar Panel: The unit boasts a large 245 watt solar panel on the roof that charges the batteries in daylight (not just sunlight) and is an excellent battery maintenance tool.

Inversion and Charging: The unit has a large 5000 watt inverter that has battery protection and a power save mode that when activated will help protect the batteries from running down too far. All appliances and all outlets will all run off the batteries. No hassles.

Eight Auxiliary AGM Batteries: These are designed to give you “off the grid” power for hours, depending on what you run and environmental factors. They will charge quickly and easily from solar and the engine generator due to a comprehensive charging and electrical control system.

According to Roadtrek, the E-trek has the most functionality of any motorhome or luxury travel van ever designed or manufactured, and it is done in an environmentally responsible way that makes camping and travel easier, more fun and worry free!

Roadtrek Introduces CS-Adventurous Class B

Kitchener, Ontario-based Roadtrek Motorhomes, the leading class B manufacturer in North America, introduces its latest Class B model, the CS-Adventurous.

Roadtrek CS-Adventurous Class B motorhome
Roadtrek CS-Adventurous Class B motorhome

Built on the Mercedes Sprinter van for its renowned fuel economy, engineering, durability, and quality, it’s the ultimate small motorhome for the real RVer, according to a company news release.

Like the RS-Adventurous, the CS-Adventurous is based on the 170-inch wheelbase regular Sprinter van so it’s 16 inches shorter than the extended version some other manufacturers use. That may not sound like much, but it can be the difference between squeezing into a regular parking spot or having to find two in a row.

An expanded galley features a 7 cubic- foot refrigerator/freezer, raised convection microwave oven for easier access, hot and cold filtered drinking water dispenser, and loads of storage above and below the spacious counter and inside the large pantry.

The Paperstone galley counter top is made of recycled paper and phenolic resin. Its stylish look defies its eco friendly construction.

The standard power sofa converts to a king-size bed. The TV can be watched in the position shown or swung out for a more centered viewing position.
The standard power sofa converts to a king-size bed. The TV can be watched in the position shown or swung out for a more centered viewing position.

The Alde hydronic heating system provides wonderful in-floor radiant comfort heating throughout, supplementary radiant heat in the bathroom, and hot water. The same system allows you to preheat the vehicle, including the engine, on cold days. And it takes advantage of excess engine heat when the engine is running to reduce propane use.

“We had the avid RVer and camper top-of-mind when we designed this exciting new model,” said Jim Hammill, Roadtrek President.

“We made sure it had ample capacity for lengthy trips, both dry camping and otherwise – ample fresh water, propane and storage. We incorporated a very advanced hydronic heating system to make spending time in the van as comfortable as home.”

Features include:

  • Large galley with 7 cubic-foot fridge, raised convection/microwave oven, hot and cold filtered drinking water dispenser and loads of storage space
  • Hydronic Heating system with in-floor radiant comfort heating, supplementary heat in the bathroom, hot water, vehicle, and engine preheating in cold weather, and use of engine heat for coach heating and hot water to save propane
  • Front seating in luxurious captain seats that are separate from primary rear sleeping area to avoid making the bed every night and allow two people to rise and retire at different times
  • Two separate living areas
  • Rear power sofa converts to large twin beds or king-size bed
  • Ample water, propane, storage, and battery capacity for dry camping and trips
