Camping World Sponsors Sprint Cup Series

New Hampshire Motor Speedway (NHMS) officials announced that Camping World will be the title sponsor of the track’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race on Sunday, July 14.

camping-world-lgThe Camping World RV Sales 301 is one of the two largest sporting events in New England, both hosted by the one-mile oval. The sponsorship is a two-year agreement.

Combining the avid support of race fans who camp at NASCAR events with its far-reaching dealership network and nation’s largest online camping store, Camping World continues to market its brand as the strongest in the RV business, according to a NHMS news release.

With more than 75 locations nationwide and offering over 8,000 products and accessories, Camping World is the brand of choice for NASCAR fans and other recreational enthusiasts.

Camping World has been the title sponsor of the NASCAR Truck Series since 2009 and was the previous title sponsor of four races at NHMS, including three NASCAR Nationwide Series races from 2007 – 2009 and the 2008 Camping World Truck Series race.

For the past six years, NHMS has been the host site for Camping World’s large display and accessories retail store, which is located next to the infield tunnel during both NASCAR event weekends.

“This is a natural, tailor-made partnership,” said Jerry Gappens, executive vice president and general manager at NHMS.

“We have one of the strongest RV camping bases of any NASCAR track, located in a major market (Boston DMA) and a strong platform to help market the Camping World brand and its products. They have had a strong presence here at our track for many years and I am appreciative that Marcus (Lemonis) has chosen our facility to move up to the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series with their marketing plans.”

Camping World plans to use the sponsorship to strengthen its market share and relationship with the racing community.

“Camping World is involved with NASCAR on multiple levels and expanding our sponsorship to the Sprint Cup Series seems like the next logical step,” said Marcus Lemonis, chairman and CEO of Camping World and star of CNBC Prime’s The Profit.

“RVing is a huge part of the racing experience. We believe joining the New Hampshire Motor Speedway family will strengthen our relationship with the racing community.”

The green flag for the Camping World RV Sales 301 is set for 1 p.m. on July 14 and will be live on TNT and PRN.

Luxury RV Rentals the Newest Niche

Fort Lauderdale, Florida-based Luxury RV rentals are not just for special occasions.

The staff at Allstar Coaches gets creative and practical client requests as well.

Rob Tischler, CEO of Allstar Coaches, says that there are so many reasons to rent a luxury RV that many people have likely never even considered.

Right now, in the midst of football season, tailgating is a top reason to rent a luxury RV. More and more tailgaters are stepping it up a notch and arriving at sporting and NASCAR events in style, he noted in a company news release.

RV rentals are also perfect for promotional tours such as political rallies, concerts, or family and college reunions. And businesses can take advantage too.

“RV rentals are ideal and cost effective for advertising,” he says.

“For example, if a company is launching a new product, why not wrap it and drive it around a targeted demographic area and interact directly with potential consumers? It’s basically a 45-foot rolling billboard that you can take anywhere.”

Luxury motorhome rentals also serve as a discerning travelers golden ticket to the ultimate fantasy vacation. With Allstar Coaches recently teaming up with some of the world’s finest private aircraft and yacht charter companies, the possibilities are endless.

Finally, RV rentals can serve as temporary housing or field offices during times of emergency or disaster situations such as hurricanes, fires, and tornadoes.

These luxury RV rentals are equipped with comfortable and well-appointed cabins, gourmet galleys, and state-of-the-art, user-friendly technology. RV rentals also include multiple slide outs and automatic awnings that, when extended, almost double usable space.

“Our innovative Hotel On Wheels concept means that our luxury RV rentals come pre-stocked with items such as luxury hotel bedding, fresh towels, and invigorating ECO Spa bath products,” Tischler said.

“Concierge services, itinerary planning, driving—you name it—our clients can rest assured that we’ll take care of it all.”

Allstar Coaches

Florida-based and founded in 2005, Allstar Coaches was created to fill a missing niche in the RV rental market. While there were numerous companies providing average RVs for rent, no one was hitting the high end. Since many people were looking to combine the adventure of RVing with the luxury amenities offered by 5 star resorts, there was room for Allstar to make its mark.

Every luxury motorhome rental is fully stocked to meet the specific needs of their discerning clientele.

Allstar offers a wide variety of services including provisioning, catering, and concierge services. In addition, they can provide drivers for those who prefer to relax on the road in their luxury RV rentals with a professional at the wheel.

With strategic locations nationwide including California, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Florida, RV rentals can be delivered to locations across the nation.

Additionally, AllStar offer local and one way RV rentals from their new locations serving Nevada, Arizona, New York, Delaware, and Maryland.

Florida based RV rental firm Allstar Coaches has been using vehicle wrap technology for years on its fleet of luxury motorhomes as it continues to grow its Corporate Events and Promotions sector.

Five Things You Need to Know Today: March 2

Since I like things to come in fives (and tens), here are five things YOU need to know TODAY!

1. Virginia State Parks app available

Virginia State Parks are now as close as your smartphone with the introduction of the new Virginia State Parks Pocket Ranger app. Developed collaboratively by the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation and ParksByNature, the new Pocket Ranger Mobile Tour Guide is available at no charge thanks to the Virginia Association for Parks and Imperial Multimedia.

Virginia is the latest of 12 states to partner with ParksByNature in developing official state park mobile tour guides. In other states, there is a basic guide and one with advanced GPS technology available at an additional charge.

Thanks to the VAFP and Imperial Multimedia, there is no charge for the advanced Virginia app. The partnership is also finalizing details on a sponsorship plan so that users are supporting Virginia State Parks each time they use the app. The mobile guide is available for Apple and some Android devices.

To download the Virginia State Parks Pocket Ranger app, go to stateparkapps.com. It can also be downloaded by visiting Apple iTunes or Android Market.

2. Save with Good Sam Club Pilot Flying J RV Plus Card

Members of the Good Sam Club, the world’s largest RV owner’s organization with over 1.3 million members across North America, now enjoy a new exclusive money-saving benefit with the Good Sam Club Pilot Flying J RV Plus Card.

Good Sam Club members can apply for their Pilot Flying J RV Plus Card which will allow them to save up to $.06 on each gallon of gasoline purchased and $.08 on diesel fuel purchased; 10 cents per gallon on bulk propane purchased, and 50 percent on holding tank dump station charges at all applicable Pilot Flying J locations in the United States.

Member discount is tied to length of time as an active Good Sam Member. The longer the card holder has been active member, the larger the discount.

3. Newell Aligns with Tom Johnson Camping Center

Miami, Oklahoma-based Newell Coach Corp. and Tom Johnson Camping Center have joined forces to provide expanded motorcoach sales and service to their respective customers.

The partnership allows Tom Johnson Camping Center, based in North Carolina, to assist their customers in the purchase of new and used Newell motorcoaches, and to also provide warranty and other services to Newell motorhome owners.

“A number of our customers are interested in the type of large, ultra-luxury, innovative motorhome Newell manufactures,” said Tom Johnson, president of Tom Johnson Camping Center.

“The Tom Johnson organization’s commitment to customer satisfaction will be a valuable asset to existing and prospective Newell coach owners, especially those in the Eastern U.S, and those near Marion and Charlotte, North Carolina, where the two Tom Johnson Camping Centers are located,” said Newell Coach President Karl Blade. “The partnership will also offer Newell’s autoracing customers expanded levels of service.”

4. Pipeline Proposal a Boon for RV Parks

More than 1,000 jobs would come with the construction of a new pipeline in Oklahoma, KTLU reports.

TransCanada was turned down last month by the President when it comes to the controversial Keystone XL Pipeline, but the company is going ahead with one leg of the pipeline. The company does not need presidential approval for the stretch between Cushing, Oklahoma to the Gulf Coast.

In the oil industry, you move where the work is.

“We are supposed to be the pipeline capital of the world where all of the pipelines cross,” says Cushing City Manager Steve Spears.

With this new pipeline project expected to finish sometime in 2013, the community and state will see jobs come in.

“Somewhere between 1,200 to 1,500 jobs in the Oklahoma market,” says Spears, who says that includes welders, inspectors, land men and safety inspectors.

5. How to Locate a Dump Station?

RV owners periodically find themselves needing to locate an RV dump station.

This may be a result of dry camping with no sewer service or dump station available, spending the night at Wal-Mart or a truck stop or the weekend at a public recreation area without dumping facilities, or trying to get on the road quickly without taking the time to use the campground dump station.

Also affected are RVers that work on the road, tailgate at college and pro games, NASCAR races, agricultural fairs and exhibitions, dog shows, and other local and national events.

Finding an RV dump station along your route, near your destination, or in your home town can be a major challenge.

Have a great weekend.

Until next time, safe RV travels, and we’ll see you on the road!

Daytona Speedway RV Park Improved

Campers arriving at Daytona International Speedway for Speedweeks are finding big changes to the RV lot along Williamson Boulevard, where some returning visitors have camped for decades.

The entire lot, outside the track but on Speedway property, was rebuilt in the off-season to try to curb long-time issues with drainage and standing water in the grass and dirt lot, according to the Daytona Beach News-Journal.

Speedway officials won’t say how much the project cost, except to say it was in the “seven-digit” range. A stormwater system was installed and the lot’s 2.5 miles of roads paved.

“Anything’s better than what we had,” said Bob Kvach, an RVer from Iowa.

Kvach, who has camped on Speedway property for 49 years, said he has “seen water deep enough it was almost running in the doors.”

“We’ll find out what it’s really like once we get a good rain,” said Kvach, a former pit crew member for retired NASCAR driver Ramo Stott. “But it should drain good.”

The Speedway also added new fencing and thousands of plants and trees, including live oaks, magnolias, and cypress, especially alongside Williamson Boulevard, flanking the main entrance gate where many fans enter the infield.

“We wanted to give a quality introduction,” Andrew Gurtis, vice president of operations for the Speedway, told to the newspaper.

The idea for paving the roads and improving the RV lot was born during the 2010 hurricane season, when the Speedway endured a host of flooding troubles after record rainfall, Gurtis said. “There was only so much we could do with hay and pumps.”

Kyle Busch edges Tony Stewart by .013 seconds to win the 2012 Budweiser Shootout. (Source: daytonainternationalspeedway.com)

Now, thanks to the 60,000 cubic yards of fill excavated during the construction of two new retention ponds and expansion of three other ponds, Gurtis said the entire RV lot was lifted about 18 inches. And, the campsites slope from a slight ridge to encourage water to flow toward the new storm sewers.

Local contractor P & S Paving performed the work, which took eight weeks and finished in mid-December.

Gurtis, excited about the improvements to the lot, kind of chuckled while giving a tour on the newly paved roads. Most of the work – the miles of storm drain pipes – was done beneath the ground and can’t be seen.

The improvements, Gurtis said, “will pay dividends for years.”

Speedway officials expect to sell out every one of their 770 RV spaces this year, especially because they lost a few with the slight reconfiguration of the lots and newly paved streets.

For campers, the good news besides the improved drainage is the rates for the lot remain the same: $575 to camp from February 7 to 27.

“We’ve been sensitive to pricing ever since the downturn,” said Speedway spokesman Lenny Santiago.

As the motorhomes rolled through the gates in the past week, the campers greeted each other as old friends after camping alongside each other for years, according to News-Journal. Many keep in touch throughout the year and were happy to see each other again. They compared notes on when other campers were due to arrive and made plans to visit their favorite local spots.

Though long-time campers grumbled a bit that they were moved anywhere from a couple of spaces to 11 spaces away this year, they were happy to see the improvements.

“No dust, no water holes,” said Frank Hobson of French Lick, Ind., one of the first campers to arrive for this year’s Speedweeks.

“It’s solid, that surprises me,” Hobson said. “For all that fill, it’s solid.”

Tickets & RV Sites Still Available for Daytona 500

About 82,000 fans filled the stands during the Bud Shootout Sunday (February 29), but only a fraction of those fans parked their RVs inside a speedway campground north of the speedway.

One of those is 68-year-old Lilly Blinkkhorn Hamilton who says the campground seemed empty.

She and her husband have been coming to the same campground for the past 12 years.

“You used to be full at this time, difficult to find a parking spot, “said Hamilton.

Hamilton blamed the economy on the 20 or so RVs inside the campground, reports Central Florida News 13.

Gary Flagg said he has been setting up his RV sales and repairs tent inside the campground for the same amount of years Hamilton has been there.

He agreed the campsite was emptier than in years past.

He said there are fewer RVs because the speedway changed the scheduled racing dates adding an extra week during Speedweeks.

“This year is a little different than years in the past because it’s over a two weekend period versus a normally eight or nine day period. So a lot of folks who normally would’ve had that one week off have held off,” said Flagg.

In an earlier news release, Daytona International Speedway President Joie Chitwood III announced that the 54th Annual Daytona 500 would be held on Sunday, February 26, 2012.

Daytona 500 Practice. In this photo: Dale Earnhardt Jr., Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, Mark Martin (Source: zimbio.com)

“The decision to kick-off to the NASCAR racing season one week later was made in close partnership with the sanctioning body, our broadcast partners including FOX, community partners, and others within the industry,” said Chitwood.

“This move shortens the racing season by one week, which is something the teams and competitors will surely enjoy, and it eliminates the off-weekend typically scheduled in March, which many fans and media partners have said created a drop in momentum in the early part of the racing season.”

Flagg told Central Florida News 13 that his business is down as much as 50 percent since he first set up shop more than a decade ago.

He sells parts to other RV owners in nearby campsites and said there were fewer RVs in other campgrounds as well.

“Very, very disturbing because a lot of them are my friends have been over the years,” said Hamilton.

The owner of the campground hopes race fans will be pulling up to his campsite as the Great American Race date nears.

The Daytona 500 is scheduled this year for February 26.

The First Daytona 500
On February 22, 1959, Daytona International Speedway hosted the first Daytona 500. The posted awards for the “500-Mile International Sweepstakes” totaled $67,760. A field of 59 cars took the green flag for the start of the 200-lap race. A crowd of 41,000 was on hand to witness the beginning of another chapter in the history of racing in Daytona.
