Camping World Sponsors Sprint Cup Series

New Hampshire Motor Speedway (NHMS) officials announced that Camping World will be the title sponsor of the track’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race on Sunday, July 14.

camping-world-lgThe Camping World RV Sales 301 is one of the two largest sporting events in New England, both hosted by the one-mile oval. The sponsorship is a two-year agreement.

Combining the avid support of race fans who camp at NASCAR events with its far-reaching dealership network and nation’s largest online camping store, Camping World continues to market its brand as the strongest in the RV business, according to a NHMS news release.

With more than 75 locations nationwide and offering over 8,000 products and accessories, Camping World is the brand of choice for NASCAR fans and other recreational enthusiasts.

Camping World has been the title sponsor of the NASCAR Truck Series since 2009 and was the previous title sponsor of four races at NHMS, including three NASCAR Nationwide Series races from 2007 – 2009 and the 2008 Camping World Truck Series race.

For the past six years, NHMS has been the host site for Camping World’s large display and accessories retail store, which is located next to the infield tunnel during both NASCAR event weekends.

“This is a natural, tailor-made partnership,” said Jerry Gappens, executive vice president and general manager at NHMS.

“We have one of the strongest RV camping bases of any NASCAR track, located in a major market (Boston DMA) and a strong platform to help market the Camping World brand and its products. They have had a strong presence here at our track for many years and I am appreciative that Marcus (Lemonis) has chosen our facility to move up to the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series with their marketing plans.”

Camping World plans to use the sponsorship to strengthen its market share and relationship with the racing community.

“Camping World is involved with NASCAR on multiple levels and expanding our sponsorship to the Sprint Cup Series seems like the next logical step,” said Marcus Lemonis, chairman and CEO of Camping World and star of CNBC Prime’s The Profit.

“RVing is a huge part of the racing experience. We believe joining the New Hampshire Motor Speedway family will strengthen our relationship with the racing community.”

The green flag for the Camping World RV Sales 301 is set for 1 p.m. on July 14 and will be live on TNT and PRN.

Tickets & RV Sites Still Available for Daytona 500

About 82,000 fans filled the stands during the Bud Shootout Sunday (February 29), but only a fraction of those fans parked their RVs inside a speedway campground north of the speedway.

One of those is 68-year-old Lilly Blinkkhorn Hamilton who says the campground seemed empty.

She and her husband have been coming to the same campground for the past 12 years.

“You used to be full at this time, difficult to find a parking spot, “said Hamilton.

Hamilton blamed the economy on the 20 or so RVs inside the campground, reports Central Florida News 13.

Gary Flagg said he has been setting up his RV sales and repairs tent inside the campground for the same amount of years Hamilton has been there.

He agreed the campsite was emptier than in years past.

He said there are fewer RVs because the speedway changed the scheduled racing dates adding an extra week during Speedweeks.

“This year is a little different than years in the past because it’s over a two weekend period versus a normally eight or nine day period. So a lot of folks who normally would’ve had that one week off have held off,” said Flagg.

In an earlier news release, Daytona International Speedway President Joie Chitwood III announced that the 54th Annual Daytona 500 would be held on Sunday, February 26, 2012.

“The decision to kick-off to the NASCAR racing season one week later was made in close partnership with the sanctioning body, our broadcast partners including FOX, community partners, and others within the industry,” said Chitwood.

“This move shortens the racing season by one week, which is something the teams and competitors will surely enjoy, and it eliminates the off-weekend typically scheduled in March, which many fans and media partners have said created a drop in momentum in the early part of the racing season.”

Flagg told Central Florida News 13 that his business is down as much as 50 percent since he first set up shop more than a decade ago.

He sells parts to other RV owners in nearby campsites and said there were fewer RVs in other campgrounds as well.

“Very, very disturbing because a lot of them are my friends have been over the years,” said Hamilton.

The owner of the campground hopes race fans will be pulling up to his campsite as the Great American Race date nears.

The Daytona 500 is scheduled this year for February 26.
