Livin’ Lite & Ford Introduce Ford-branded RVs

Looking to spend some time exploring the countryside in the all-new 2015 F-150?

TOP-ford-truck-camperNow it’s possible to sleep comfortably inside a Ford-branded camper, thanks to recreational vehicle builder Livin’ Lite.

Livin’ Lite and Ford Motor Company have agreed to license a line of Ford-branded aluminum-constructed truck campers for the all-new aluminum-bodied 2015 F-150 pickup truck.

Beginning in 2013, Livin’ Lite began working with Ford designers to adopt design cues from the aluminum-body F-150 into their aluminum campers.

The 2015 F-150 is up to 700 pounds lighter than the 2014 truck, and Livin’ Lite campers are typically 30 percent lighter than the competition. This weight-saving combination is designed to improve fuel efficiency for RV customers.

The Ford truck camper will incorporate a new and unique fiberglass front nose cap. The exterior of the camper will be fiberglass with full-body paint to match the 2015 Ford F-150.

“I can’t tell you how excited we are to work with a company as prestigious as Ford and bring their iconic brand name back into the RV industry,” said Scott Tuttle, president of Livin’ Lite. “Ford believes enough in our unique aluminum construction to allow us to carry the ‘Built Ford Tough’ label, which says a lot.”

The debut Ford-branded camper model design will appear at the 52nd Annual National RV Trade Show, December 2-4 at the Kentucky Expo Center in Louisville, Kentucky.

Additional Ford truck campers are also planned. There will be a Ford F-series of campers to match Ford F-250 and F-350 trucks. The design lines will work with those models as well. All truck camper floor plans will work well as Ford truck campers.

Livin’ Lite plans to release other models in time for sale in 2015. The lineup of Ford-branded RVs will include tent campers, travel trailers, truck campers, toy haulers, and fifth wheels for sale through Livin’ Lite dealers.

In the 1970s, Ford had a dedicated RV division with a team of engineers and marketing professionals. In 1973, Ford debuted the American Road, a molded-fiberglass truck camper that was decades ahead of its time.

The 11.5 foot Ford American Road was designed to match Ford trucks and featured a basement with heated and insulated holding tanks, a full-booth face-to-face dinette, sprayed on urethane foam insulation, and a 100,000 mile, 40-degree below zero durability test.

Today, Livin’ Lite licenses Ford trademarks and is fully responsible for designing, engineering, and manufacturing Ford-branded recreational products with input from Ford Design.

Livin’ Lite Restyles Interior Cabinetry

Wakarusa, Indiana-based Livin’ Lite Recreational Vehicles LLC, introduced an altogether restyled interior cabinetry look in its line of ultra-light campers at the recent National RV Trade Show in Louisville, Kentucky.

“As Livin Lite continues to evolve our unique all-aluminum and composite built product line-up to better fit in with mainstream buyers, we listened to both our dealers and customers about what we can do better,” Scott Tuttle, president of Livin’ Lite said in a news release.

“What we heard was we needed to soften up our interiors even more, and possibly eliminate some of the shiny, aluminum edges and trim on the cabinetry and walls.

“Well, we did just that with our new optional black powder coated trim package, which is available in our traditional maple cabinetry or our new rich, cherry cabinetry.

“While we will still build a number of units with the bright aluminum trim, especially in our toy hauler lines, this new powder coated look really helps our unique wood-free products attain a true residential look.”

The new interior packages are available in the Livin’ Lite’s popular Camplite travel trailers and truck campers, and will also be featured in an ultra lightweight fifth wheel that Livin’ Lite plans to launch in 2013.

Earlier this year, Livin’ Lite received a No. 1 rating for ultra-lightweight towables from third-party, consumer-produced JR Consumer Resources.

Livin’ Lite was the only manufacturer to garner an overall rating of “10” – the highest possible rating – in the highly competitive category.

There were also “above average” and “economy” categories.

Livin Lite Introduces Jeep Branded Campers

Wakarusa, Indiana-based Livin Lite Recreational Vehicles announced that the company is now able to sell its official Jeep branded campers through the Livin Lite network of dealers.

Livin Lite Recreational Vehicles ExtremeTrail

“Previously, Chrysler/Jeep would only allow these campers to be sold through their official Jeep dealers, but honestly, that didn’t work out as well as any of those dealers hoped it would,” said Scott Tuttle, president of Livin Lite.

“We have been negotiating with them for over a year to get this in our dealer’s hands where dealers are much more comfortable selling campers, and where potential camper owners are much more likely to go and see one in person.”

“Last year, Jeep was the No. 1 selling SUV, and we are excited to be able to offer this unique camper through our Livin Lite dealers,” Tuttle added.

“These campers have earned the prestigious ‘Trail Rated’ badge from Jeep by passing not only the same tough 160,000-mile testing that Jeep vehicles have to go through on the famous Chelsea proving grounds, but they actually took the camper through twice to make it sure it could handle the wear and tear.”

“That means our camper went through 320,000 miles of testing. They also put it through a 24-hour saline bath test to test the durability of the metals we were using. When it came out of that test, the actual camper looked great,” he said.

“But the hitch and the safety chains, items that we add on to the camper, were rusted through.  It was amazing the detailed testing our camper went through. They actually marked every screw in the camper to make sure that it didn’t turn. In the end, we earned Detroit’s respect and their nod of approval to carry the Jeep name.”

Livin Lite Recreational Vehicles ExtremeTrail

The Jeep camper is the first trailer ever to make the cover of Four Wheeler magazine, Tuttle noted.

The manufacturer suggested retail price of the Jeep camper ranges from $9,999 to $11,999, depending on options.

Livin Lite is showing two versions of the Jeep camper at the 50th annual National RV Trade Show at the Kentucky Expo Center, Louisville, Kentucky, from November 27-29, 2012.

The National RV Trade Show is sponsored by the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA). RVIA is a trade association representing the interests of the manufacturing segment of the RV industry.

Each one will feature 17-inch Jeep rims with 32- to 35-inch off road tires.

The Trail Edition features Jeep fenders, tires, rear bumper, latches, and automotive logos—the same items used on the actual Jeep SUVs, as well as Jeep branded interior sofa/bed and tent.

The Extreme Trail Edition which is designed for extreme terrain, including rock climbing, has a steel underbelly and articulating pintel hitch that allows the camper to be towed at extreme angles.

Each Jeep camper comes with a custom paint scheme to exactly match the owner’s Jeep paint—making it a true one-of-a-kind camper for the Jeep owner, said Tuttle.
