Lifestyle RV Introduces Shorter Model With Rear Living

Middlebury, Indiana-based Lifestyle Luxury RV, a member of the EverGreen family of companies, has introduced a rear living fifth wheel trailer with a length to satisfy those looking for a shorter model.

The 32RL model has a 33-foot 11-inch length that doesn’t sacrifice the open feel and signature design touches synonymous with the Lifestyle name, according to a company news release .

The open layout is a combination of the kitchen, living area, and multiple slides. The dining slide houses a freestanding table with chairs and entertainment center.

A hide-a-bed sofa at the rear of the coach is a prime location for TV viewing during the day and becomes a guest bed at night. More seating is available on the loveseat in a separate slide across from the dining slide.

“The 32RL gives customers another choice in their luxury fifth wheel options,” said Lifestyle Product Manager Gary Stanley.

“All of our models are designed to be full-timer friendly which is why we wanted to incorporate a floor plan with a shorter overall length. We realize that not all full-timers want or need a longer coach, so we’ve created something that fits this niche.”

Separating the kitchen and living areas is a peninsula that houses the double stainless steel sink with a high-rise faucet.

Kitchen appliances are situated in a third slide that runs almost the complete length of the coach. A range, oven, over-the-range microwave, refrigerator, and pantry create a kitchen that makes meal preparation easy.

5 Essentials To Buying an RV

A recreational vehicle is a major purchase that can cost, in some cases, more than a house. As with any major purchase, it is smart to do your homework before you buy to be sure you are getting the best value for your money.

Canyon Gateway RV Park, Williams, Arizona © Rex Vogel, all rights reserved
Pop-up camper and fifth wheel trailer camped at Canyon Gateway RV Park, Williams, Arizona © Rex Vogel, all rights reserved

When contemplating the purchase of a motorhome or trailer, take your time, do your homework, talk to owners of similar types and brands of campers, attend RV shows, and locate a good reputable dealer who stands behind his products and provides quality service.

There is an RV for every budget and every family. It just takes some time to find it.

The following information is intended to help you navigate the most important aspects of making your dream of owning a recreational vehicle a reality.

  1. Set Goals

Identify your RV needs. Answering the following questions will help you decide which RV is best for you:

  • Are you a weekend warrior, snowbird, or full-timer?
  • How much can you afford to spend including monthly payments and related expenses (fuel, maintenance and service, insurance, license, storage)?
  • What size RV fits your family?
  • Do you prefer a motorized RV or a towable?
  • Which RV features and amenities do you need and which can you live without?
  • When you are not traveling, where will you store your RV?
A+ Motel & RV Park, Sulphur, Louisiana © Rex Vogel, all rights reserved
Class A Diesel Pusher and Class A Gas motorhomes at A+ Motel & RV Park, Sulphur, Louisiana © Rex Vogel, all rights reserved

One of the first considerations is establishing an RV budget. It’s vital to know how much you can afford to spend on your RV including manageable monthly payments. Also consider related expenses including fuel, insurance, license, maintenance costs, and storage.

Sticking to your goals will help you get exactly what you want and it will also help you avoid purchasing an RV out of your price range. By setting your goals, you can go in knowing what you want and eliminate most RVs that don’t fit your needs.

  1. The Test Drive

A major difference between driving RVs and cars is that they don’t handle the same, especially when cornering. Test-driving is always a good idea to see what kind of RV is manageable for you. The last thing you want to do is get an RV that you can’t drive safely.

Another tip to remember is that once people and all your items are in the RV, weight may become an issue.

White Tank Mountain Regional Park: West Valley Icon © Rex Vogel, all rights reserved
Small travel trailer camping at White Tank Mountain Regional Park Campground, Maricopa County, Arizona © Rex Vogel, all rights reserved

Figure on a 20-30 minute test drive in as many traffic, terrains, and road surface conditions as possible. 0-65mph on the test drive, cornering, braking, shifting. Does the steering wheel pull in your hand on different road conditions?

This will be a noticeable pulling to the center or edge of the road. This is an alignment issue and will need to be fixed.

  1. Financing

If you’re like most, you’ll probably be financing a portion of your purchase. Discuss financing with your local bank or other lending institution prior to purchasing an RV to determine your credit limit and assure approval.

Another thing to consider is that because every motorhome most likely has a bed, kitchen, sink, and bathroom, the IRS classifies them as homes. This means that the interest on your loan may be tax deductible as a home mortgage. In Canada, this is not the case.

  1. Maintenance

Your RV is a valuable investment; however, it can be very costly to repair if it is not properly maintained.

There are two basic types of maintenance for your RV: preventative maintenance and scheduled maintenance. Often these two terms are used interchangeably.

Preventative maintenance is maintenance you perform on your RV before a problem exists and consists of cleaning, inspecting, lubricating, adjusting, and servicing your RV.

Scheduled Maintenance or routine maintenance is performed in intervals normally based on time, mileage, or hours.

  1. Don’t Buy Right Away

When it comes to researching your new RV purchase, the last thing you want to be is hasty. It is important to take your time while considering your budget, wants and needs, future travel plans, and any other items you feel are important in making your decision, such as safety, quality, and reliability.

One of the most important things you can do when buying is to always shop around. Don’t just buy from your first stop. Look around, compare prices and find the best deal available.

With these tips, you will be successful in your purchase and operation of your new or new to you RV. Enjoy!

Never forget your dreams.

April 2015 RV Manufacturer Recalls

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has recently announced 5 recall notices involving 2 recreational vehicle/chassis manufacturers—Forest River and Newmar.

Forest River, Inc.

forest-RiverForest River, Inc. (Forest River) is recalling certain model year 2014 Palomino SolAire trailers manufactured July 1, 2014, to August 31, 2014. The affected vehicles may have been manufactured without an exterior furnace vent causing exhaust fumes to be vented into the trailer. Additionally, the lack of a furnace vent may result in a heat buildup around the furnace.

Exhaust fumes inside the trailer may result in carbon-monoxide poisoning, increasing the risk of occupant injury. A heat buildup, increases the risk of a fire.

Forest River will notify owners, and dealers will install an exterior furnace vent in any affected trailer that does not have one, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in April 2015. Owners may contact Forest River customer service at 1-574-389-4600. Forest River’s number for this recall is 400-03032015-0016.

In the affected vehicles, the abutting wedge, a component attached to the door jamb to make opening the door easier after a severe frontal impact, may have been installed incorrectly.

If a vehicle that has an incorrectly installed abutting wedge is involved in a severe frontal crash, greater force may be necessary to open the doors, increasing the risk of injury.

Sprinter will notify owners, and Sprinter dealers will check the installation of the abutting wedge, correcting it as necessary, free of charge. The recall began in March 2015. Owners may contact Forest River customer service at 1-574-642-0437. Forest River’s number for this recall is 15V-082.

Lifestyle Luxury RV Continues To Expand

As the Lifestyle Luxury RV brand continues its expansion with new dealers from coast-to-coast, it maintains its tight affiliation with the past—one of the most discerning, iconic camper clubs in the industry—the Carriage Travel Club.

LIFESTYLE Luxury RV Introduces Side Hauler Fifth Wheel

Lifestyle Luxury RV was founded in 2012 with the charter to fill the vacuum left by the passing of many of the luxury fifth wheel builders in the industry. The Lifestyle Luxury RV brand continues to expand and prosper with its new Alfa Gold brand and manufacturing innovations found nowhere else, all while keeping in touch with its “New Legacy” of full-time luxury and durability.

“Our continued growth in market share in the luxury fifth-wheel segment, combined with the rewarding relationship we have with our legacy customers in the Carriage Travel Club in the United States and Canada, create a unique synergy of new and old here at Lifestyle,” stated General Manger of Lifestyle Luxury RV Dymon Farrer, in a company news release.

“The result is that we are continually striving to lead the industry with innovative products, brands and designs, while maintaining the legacy of quality that made our brand successful in the first place.”

The Carriage Travel Club is closing in on 40-years of full-timer brand loyalty at its 39th Grand National Rally this year in Branson, Missouri on October 3. Lifestyle Luxury RV remains ahead of the curve with innovations for the future grounded on a foundation of quality.

The One and Only Titan Structure Frame—A closing sales point with full-timers looking for durability that will last, Lifestyle’s Titan Structure frame is the only frame completely engineered and welded in-house for the highest quality. The double, box-channel American steel frame provides the solid base needed for a raised steel integrated floor. Raising the floor creates the industry’s only rear pass-through storage. The Titan Structure frame has 12-inches of welded, box channel steel to maintain the coach’s structural integrity, with far more rigidity than conventional I-beam frames. This results in the strongest frame in the industry and the only frame engineered to handle a full wall slide out system.

The Only Full-Wall-Slide Fifth Wheel—Lifestyle Luxury RV builds the only fifth wheel with a true full-wall slide system. Usually only found on high-end motor coaches with massive bus chassis, the full-wall slide system is engineered on risers above the frame for the strongest foundation and smoothest operation. The slide-outs operate on a fully mechanical, rack and pinion system with over-sized gearing for the ultimate reliability—no hydraulic line to maintain or burst.

The Only Alfa Gold Side Hauler—With the introduction of the new Alfa Gold 3905SH for 2015, Lifestyle has another first. This Alfa Gold, built on its own version of the Titan Structure frame, has a Motorcycle Garage Option complete with a lift system that safely loads a motorcycle into a 36 square-foot slide room for easy transport. The first of its kind, Alfa Gold 3905SH fifth wheel is not a toy hauler but rather a luxury fifth wheel built for motorcycle enthusiasts who put a premium on living space, but still want to take a bike along. The award winning design won Best Debut 2015 from RV Business Magazine and has acquired more than 52,000 views on YouTube.

Today, with the addition of the Skyline RV brand, EverGreen and its Lifestyle Luxury RV division is one of the five largest recreational vehicle manufacturers in North America. Lifestyle Luxury RV, manufactured in Middlebury, Indiana, assembled a team of the industry’s best and brightest who are putting their expertise to work to give the RV industry a new choice for legacy brand, full-time luxury fifth wheels.

Heartland Introduces Gateway Luxury Fifth Wheel With Side Patio

Based on one of its most popular floor plans, Heartland Recreational Vehicles is seeing strong consumer response for its newly introduced Gateway 3750PT luxury fifth-wheel, sporting four slide rooms, two true queen-size beds, and a 60-square-foot side patio.

The latest addition to the Gateway line is breaking new ground in the full-profile fifth-wheel marketplace, according to a company news release.

“The 3750PT is one of just a few units to offer a side patio in a non-toy hauler floor plan,” General Manager Paul Craven said.

“It’s also the only fifth-wheel floor plan that offers two true queen beds—one in the front master bedroom and the other in a rear of the RV.

“We were able to accommodate a 60-inch-by-80-inch queen in the second bedroom by engineering a tilt mechanism that reduces the bed size when the two opposing slides are retracted,” added Craven.

“With the slide outs open, the room is approximately 13 feet wide.”

Craven noted that the Gateway 3750PT was adapted from Heartland’s hot-selling 3650 model, allowing for a quick rollout in time for the heart of the early show season.

“The insight we gained from engineering and building world class toy haulers allowed us to adapt the side patio into a full-profile fifth-wheel,” he said.

Targeting growing families with two available bunkhouse slide rooms, the 41-foot fifth-wheel creates a spacious, homelike environment that extends to the outdoors with the side patio area.

“With the two bunk slides, it can sleep up to seven people,” Craven said.

“Essentially, the patio creates an additional room, letting people get off the ground and still enjoy the outdoors.”

Standard patio features include an overhead awning along with a large TV, built-in refrigerator, and safety rails. Sliding glass doors with a built-in screen lead from the patio into the 3750PT’s kitchen that is set off by solid-surface countertops and a “stone-look” base cabinet.

The living area is outfitted for entertaining with spacious seating on a couch equipped with four recliners and a chaise lounge. A 40-inch TV is located in the kitchen for central viewing.

“The 3750PT has been selling extremely well on the consumer show circuit,” said Coley Brady, vice president of sales and marketing for Heartland.

“Our dealer partners are telling us that it creates a new niche in the rapidly growing full-profile segment, adding another value piece to their lineup.”

“The Gateway line continues to excel and deliver unbeatable floor plans that resonate with buyers, said President Chris Hermon.

“It is now the market leader in its segment, which was accomplished in just 2 1/2 years. More good things are coming soon for this brand.”

Other options on the 3750PT include a six-point electric leveling system, residential refrigerator, prep for a generator, dual pane windows, and a king bed in the master suite.

Craven said that Heartland will be adding another “industry-first” floor plan in the coming months.
