Makers of the iconic ‘silver bullet’ travel trailers like the Next-gen Series 2 International 684 Caravan, the classic 1954 Airstream caravan, the Victorinox Special Edition Airstream, and the 2011 Eddie Bauer Airstream travel trailer, Jackson Center, Ohio-based Airstream Inc. will display its expanded product lineup of travel trailers and touring coach models during the 50th Annual National RV Trade Show, November 27-29 in Louisville, Kentucky.

Airstream which is also the longest-tenured recreational vehicle manufacturer in North America will introduce its newest luxury concept trailer, the Airstream Land Yacht.

The Land Yacht which boasts truly yacht-like interiors and incorporates elements from the world’s finest luxury watercrafts is actually the product of an international collaboration between Airstream, the maker of fine cabinetry Technoform, and the design studio of Officinia Italiana Design.

Tecnoform, an Italian company specializes in the production of furnishings for motorhomes and caravans. Its new TDL (Tecnoform Design Lab) project produces a caravan/trailer characterized by its high technical content and its unique design.

It was shown at Düsseldorf Caravan Salon 2012, where it won the “Best Interior Design” and “Best Practice” titles in the prestigious “Caravanning Design Award: 2012/2013” organized in collaboration with Red Dot Design.

“Tecnoform designed this project to transfer to recreational vehicles the know-how developed in 48 years of experience in designing and producing furnishings for motorhomes, caravans, and luxury boats,” said spokesperson Antonio Mazzucchelli.

“The project was driven by the specific intent of showing that it is possible to design non-standard, highly innovative furnishings not only on paper. Not a mere design exercise but rather projects which can easily enter the market and find an immediate outlet in normal production.

“Last but not least, important partnerships were created for this project between the excellencies of the industry at national and international level, in order to give life to a product that would set the standard for interior design,” he added.

Crafted with quality materials and equipment throughout, including high-luster teak, white wood inlay boat-deck flooring, LED panel lighting elements, Corian solid surfaces, and plush Ultraleather; the 28-foot Airstream Land Yacht Concept trailer boasts a contemporary look created by Technoform’s engineering department in partnership with the long-term designer for Riva Yachts, Mauro Micheli

Sleek and sophisticated looking cabin unit which can comfortably accommodate up to 5 people, features a bedroom in the front, a bathroom amidships and a rear social space, which includes a galley that can be hidden when not in use.

Airstream Teams with Fiamma to Develop Unique Bike Carrier

Airstream has teamed up with Fiamma Inc. to co-develop a unique bike carrier specifically customized to satisfy the exacting demands of the Airstream travel trailer owner.

Bicycles have always been a part of the Airstream lifestyle. Since famed cyclist Alfred LeTourneur towed one with his racing bike for the famous 1948 marketing photo, bicycles have been featured in vintage caravan photos throughout the decades, and a casual stroll at any rally will reveal bicycles of all types and uses—from sleek custom built road bikes, to vintage balloon-tired cruisers.

Whether it’s a quick trip to the store, or a 30-mile ride exploring the countryside, bicycles make any Airstream trip even better. What isn’t always noticeable is how these bikes got to the rally.

Serious and casual cyclists alike, your prayers have been answered. Say goodbye to hoisting bikes onto the roof rack of your tow vehicle; loading greasy, muddy bicycles inside the rig risking damage to the upholstery or bike; or clamping together a homemade rack.

The official Airstream bike carrier is here!

The new rack, which debuted January 1, configured especially for selected trailers, was designed exclusively for Airstream by Fiamma, a leading manufacturer of trailer awnings, bike carriers, levelers, and other RV accessories with global sales and a worldwide reputation for premium quality products and service.

The prototype for the bike rack, called the Airstream Carry-Bike, was developed in the U.S. by Fiamma and designed and tested in Italy.

The sleek tray-mount design makes it possible for anyone to quickly access their bicycles, and to secure them whether on the road or away from the campsite.

The Carry-Bike mounts on the rear of the Airstream trailer, allowing continued access to integrated rear bumper storage. Bikes mount securely on the unit and loading and unloading is quick and easy.

Precision-manufactured from lightweight extruded aluminum with stainless steel components, the Carry-Bike is sturdy, precision engineered, and lightweight, with a maximum carrying capacity of 77 pounds, suitable for two average adult bicycles.

The 209397 model fits International & Flying Cloud units and installs outside over the bumper.

Portions of the rack must be attached with some drilling required, but the rack is easily removable and won’t block the trailer rear compartment.

Airstream Carry-Bikes have been designed to address the needs of the following model lines, in all lengths and floor plans:

  • International – from 2001 model year onwards
  • Flying Cloud – from 2009 model year onwards
  • Safari – from 1997 model year onwards.

In addition, Airstream and Fiamma have developed a removable version of the Carry-Bike for fitment inside the Eddie Bauer line of travel trailers which feature the rear sports hatch and configurable furniture. This version of the Carry-Bike also holds two bicycles.

The Fiamma-designed bike rack is exclusive to Airstream for one year. The companies are negotiating exclusivity terms beyond 2012.

Fiamma bike carriers are also used on Volkswagen’s VW T4 Camper Vans and its T3 vans, according to the company website.

A new trailer that’s old

Airstream, arguably the most recognized RV manufacturer in North America, has partnered with Eddie Bauer to produce a new trendy trailer—the 2011 Eddie Bauer Airstream travel trailer.

First unveiled at the 48th Annual National RV Trade Show in Louisville, Kentucky in late November 2010, the Eddie Bauer Airstream is now available at dealers nationwide.

With more than 160 years of combined experience, two iconic brands, Airstream and Eddie Bauer, have partnered to create the ultimate adventure travel trailer, specifically designed to bring outdoor enthusiasts closer to Mother Nature in comfort and style.

Designed to meet the specific needs of outdoor adventure travel, the Eddie Bauer Airstream includes a unique sport hatch in the rear of the trailer. The hatch allows for easy loading and unloading of oversized equipment such as bikes and kayaks which can then be secured in the fold-away dinette/lounge area. The unit is also equipped with premium oversized Michelin tires to provide greater ground clearance and rugged wheel-well cladding to protect against off-road debris.

A handheld exterior shower makes for easy cleanup for the traveler, their equipment, or pets. Extra clotheslines and racks are intended for hanging wet clothing while durable exterior tie hooks are ideal for securing equipment or making sure Fido stays close by.

The interior features an Eddie Bauer-inspired décor, including maple and soapstone laminates, fossilized leaf pattern roof locker doors, quilted fabrics with contrast piping, as well as extremely durable and stain-resistant Sunbrella upholstery. The 25-foot trailer can sleep four people, and its queen-size bed comes with an Eddie Bauer Goose Down duvet, pillows, and throw to provide comfort at the end of an adventurous day. And the rear sport hatch, with its roll-down screen, creates the ultimate portal for bringing the outdoors in.

The Eddie Bauer Airstream also comes with a co-branded duffle bag and two daypacks that make ‘pack & go’ super easy.

“Airstream customers have always been passionate in their pursuit of outdoor adventure, and now we’ve created the ultimate tool to support their needs,” says Airstream President and CEO Bob Wheeler, “And we’ve done so by perfectly melding the inimitable style of two great American brands.”

“Eddie Bauer has been outfitting fishermen, hunters, mountaineers, and other outdoor adventurers for 90 years,” said Neil Fiske, Eddie Bauer president and CEO. “Partnering with Airstream gives us the opportunity to build something special for those who enjoy comfort and style yet want the flexibility to take all of their gear and equipment on their family adventures.”

The partnership between Airstream and Eddie Bauer will be supported by coordinated marketing campaigns by both brands.
