EarthCruiser Outback Explorer Now Manufactured in the U.S.

Over 1,200 recreational vehicles were on display at America’s Largest RV Show in Hershey, Pennsylvania, from September 11-13.

Attendees kicked the tires of RVs, and there seemed to be just as many buyers looking to travel dirt roads as those who prefer to stay on the pavement, according to a EarthCruiser USA news release.

One vehicle, called the “Outback Explorer,” is a rugged RV engineered from the DNA of the famous EarthCruiser Expedition RV, originally designed and tested on some of the most challenging terrain in Australia.

The new Outback is being manufactured in the U.S. at HOST Industries in Bend, Oregon.

“Every month, the Outback gets more popular,” explained vehicle developer Lance Gillies. “Americans are interested in adventure travel. The Outback is very capable, comfortable, affordable, and can take them to places they could never drive in a typical RV.”

Based on the Mitsubishi Fuso 4×4 chassis, the vehicle is priced near $140,000.

The rugged rig provides users with exceptional reliability and class leading fuel economy courtesy of the DOHC, 4-cylinder diesel engine, according to the news release.

“We’re thrilled to see the growing popularity of this style of RV,” says Mike Rumsey, VP of sales for Fuso trucks of America.

“There’s an active group of American travelers who are not interested in the same RV experience as their parents or grandparents. The Outback Explorer uses new vehicle technology and engineering of our chassis to take people to new and exciting destinations. It’s an awesome choice for active travelers.”

The vehicle employs Mitsubishi’s Duonic transmission, which supplies continuous power to all four wheels to help maintain maximum traction along with the vehicle’s kinetic mounting system for long camper life and a comfortable ride.

During the Hershey RV Show, EarthCruiser USA demonstrated this system by driving one wheel of the Outback onto a spare tire. Even with one wheel elevated, the RV’s living area remained perfectly level and the slide-outs operated flawlessly.

The basic box section, all welded aluminum and fiberglass camper shell, incorporates two opposing lateral slides, one for the kitchen and the other for the dinette, and includes plenty of amenities, plus interior and exterior storage.

As buyers inspected the Outback Explorer, the popular comment was, “This is just plain cool!”

EarthCruiser Takes You Where No Other RV Can Go

In an earlier article I reported that the EarthCruiser, an extreme Australian adventure all-terrain recreational vehicle, was now available in the United States.

A high-profile business executive, who wishes to remain anonymous, recently took delivery of the first USA model, EarthCruiser announces.

In 2012, the Australian EarthCruiser team arrived in America, opening a new U.S.-based office located in Bend, Oregon. There are a few dozen of these vehicles already traveling to remote locations all over the globe.

Current EarthCruiser owners include wildlife photographers, hunters, surfers, rock climbers, adventure seekers, and corporations needing 4×4 capable RVs. The vehicle is also in demand by eco and volunteer travelers who are doing everything from delivering medical supplies to remote locations, teaching children, repairing endangered reefs, and a wide variety of outreach programs, according to a EarthCruiser news release.
“People all over the world are tired of the normal vacation,” explains EarthCruiser executive Lance Gillies.

“This is NOT your typical camper! This is a serious self-contained, all-terrain expedition vehicle that has been tested in extreme conditions all over the world. It’s been designed to take you where no other RV can, places that most people only read about in magazines.”
With vehicles now being purchased by Americans, the U.S. office for EarthCruiser can finalize plans for manufacturing at their Bend, Oregon, location.

Engineering behind the Earthcruiser was developed from the world traveling experiences of the company’s founders. The diesel powered exploration vehicle can be driven directly into, and shipped anywhere around the globe in a standard freight container.

It is capable of negotiating everything from long-distance desert crossings, snow covered terrain, or miles of challenging rock covered off-road trails. The “goat-like” capabilities come courtesy of an ability to handle extreme front and rear departure angles, the specially designed suspension system, and an aggressive wheel/tire combination.

The vehicle is built on a Mitsubishi Fuso 4×4 truck chassis, which once transformed, provides excellent power-to-weight ratio and economical fuel consumption, according to the news release. The Fuso cab offers plenty of space, easy-to-read instruments, while the position of the cab’s large windshield provides panoramic views and excellent visibility of approaching terrain.

Using design techniques from the yachting industry, the interior is strategically designed using light colored, all-fiberglass cabinetry and large windows that make the bright living area feel spacious. Quality appliances, hot and cold shower, toilet, ergonomic kitchen, plentiful storage, and a full size double bed keep the explorers comfortable.

The walls and roof are constructed from a temperature-insulating and super-durable fiberglass composite. Its solar panel system can sustain travelers for up to ten days and the vehicle is fitted with the only water purification unit in the world that has been independently certified to meet world EPA health standards.
