The $699,000 motorhome is built on a Freighliner SLM Series Liberty 600 chassis and ushers in a new design language for the company, said Steven Hileman, marketing director, in a news release.

“It’s all new DNA for American Coach,” he added.

The motorhome was designed in cooperation with designers from the United Kingdom as well as with assistance from Freightliner and Daimler. It features more than 200 new design points.

One key feature is the optional emergency exit door from the back bedroom designed to give owners peace of mind that they can exit their coach safely in an emergency.

The new cockpit is fully digital with LCD gauges monitoring critical functions in the motorhome using the Silverleaf Total Coach Control system. “The 2016 American Eagle features European construction techniques and eight new wood finishes,” said Hileman.

2015 RV Rallies

RVing can be even more memorable when it’s shared with other RVers at a rally.

Freightliner Club Rally
Freightliner Club Rally held at Lazy Days in Tucson, Arizona © Rex Vogel, all rights reserved.

There are several different types of RV rallies including Good Sam Club National and Chapter rallies, manufacturer club rallies, and club rallies for RVers of similar interests.

Good Sam Club Chapters embrace RV fellowship and make lasting friendships through a shared sense of community and a love for RVing. Chapters hold campouts, plan social events, and organize community volunteer opportunities. There are nearly 1,500 Good Sam Chapters across North America.

Manufacturer clubs enhance the enjoyment of ownership by providing connections with others of similar interests. In addition to a national RV rally, most of these RV clubs and manufacturers host regional and local chapter rallies. The brand club rallies for owners of a specific brand of RV typically offer technical and lifestyle seminars, crafts, new RV displays, and opportunities to socialize.

Many RVers enjoy gathering with friends who have special interests or common goals. Similar interest clubs include Escapees RV Club for full-timers and Family Motor Coach Association (FMCA) for motorhome enthusiasts. From singles clubs to an organization of military personnel, chances are good that you can find a club that’s just right.

RV and camping shows are where multiple dealers gather to bring their latest models and offer deals. This provides a great opportunity for prospective buyers to wander between different models, check out various floor plans, ask questions, meet other RVers, and find the RV that best meets their needs.

RV retail shows give you an opportunity to see many makes and models of RVs—at one time and at one place. What better way to comparison-shop for the vehicle that best fits your travel plans and budget? At RV shows, you’ll also find dealers and other RV industry experts, who can assist you in finding the right RV.

There’s an RV show every year in every region of the country.

New and experienced RVers head around the country during the year to check out what the latest in recreational vehicles and new products and accessories.

January through early April is prime RV Show Season. There is no better way to shop for a new RV or upgrade your current one than by attending an RV show, where numerous dealers and suppliers come together to show off their wares. You’ll have an opportunity to check out a wide-range of recreational vehicles in one location, often at special “show prices”.

The two granddaddies of the RV Show circuit are the Florida RV SuperShow at Florida State Fairgrounds, Tampa, from January 14-18; and the Quartzsite Sports, Vacation and RV Show, in Quartzsite, Arizona, January 17-25.

RV shows are also scheduled with snowbirds in mind at a variety of other venues including:

South Texas RV Supersale (San Antonio, Texas), January 2-4

Southern Louisiana Boat, Sport & RV Show (Houma, Louisiana), January 9-11

All Valley RV Show (Mercedes, Texas), January 15-18

When attending an RV show be sure to wear comfortable footwear. You’ll be walking and standing for the majority of the day. If you check out everything the show has to offer, by the end of the day, your feet will be crying out for mercy. Wearing sensible footwear will help to keep your feet from aching after a long day.

When entering an RV show, you’ll receive a map and brochure that details the location of each vendor. Plan your route through the show to maximize your time, energy, and priorities. You may wish to jot down important information or remind yourself of vendors you wish to revisit later in the day.

You may want to make notes, swap phone numbers, or have a way to write down information. Bringing a small notepad and pen/pencil if you don’t have a smart phone that can input notes for future reference. Just pop the notepad in your pocket and you’re good to go for the day.

Enter the giveaways. Most RV show vendors offer giveaways, discounts, and more. All you have to do is enter the contest. Besides, who doesn’t like free stuff or discounts on products? Several years ago we received a free week of camping following the Mid-Valley RV Show in the Rio Grande Valley. On another occasion we received a month of camping for $99.

Worth Pondering…

2015 Quartzsite Sports, Vacation & RV Show Dates Announced

Every January something happens that is hard to believe, unless you have seen it!

Dates for the 32nd annual Quartzsite Sports, Vacation & RV Show are January 17-25, 2015, from 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

More than a million and half million visitors, mostly in recreational vehicles, converge on the sleepy little desert town of Quartzsite, located just 20 miles east of the California border on Interstate 10, for the rock, gem, and mineral shows, plus numerous flea markets and the annual Quartzsite Sports, Vacation & RV Show.

Wherever you look, you see RVs of every type, size, and vintage. It’s the Woodstock of the Snowbird set!

“If you’re looking for anything related to RVs, you’ll find it at the RV show in Quartzsite,” says Kenny King, show promoter.

There will be several hundred new and used RVs on display in 2015 and over a dozen service bays will be offering immediate installation, repairs, and service on many of the items that will be exhibited at the show.

This phenomenon started over 30 years ago and is now billed as “The Largest Gathering Of RVers in the World”.

The inaugural Quartzsite RV Show opened January 28, 1984 at the corner of Highway 95 (now Central) and Business 10 (now Main Street) in Quartzsite. With just 60 exhibitors and a small tent, the “new show in town” was still very popular since the majority of the people in Quartzsite were RVers.

Check out the new and used RVs of every type and size at the Quartzsite RV Show.

In 1987 the show, now re-named the Quartzsite Sports, Vacation & RV Show, moved up the street to the Quartzsite Trailer Park which was situated directly across from the major attraction in town, the Quartzsite Pow Wow (the first Pow Wow was held in 1967).

This new home for the Quartzsite Sports, Vacation & RV Show lasted 10 years until the show grew to a point that the current 3.5-acre show site could barely hold the number of exhibitors that were now vying for exhibit space at this popular annual event.

In 1997 the “BIG TENT”, as the show had become known, moved across the freeway to its present home, a new 20-acre facility, ½-mile south of I-10 on Highway 95 (now 700 South Central).

With the new Quartzsite Sports, Vacation & RV Show grounds, the popular event was able to provide over 15 acres of public FREE parking.

During our last visit to the Quartzsite Sports, Vacation & RV Show, we reminisced about how Quartzsite has changed over the last 16 years since our first visit and what future years might bring.

When we first went to the Quartzsite Sports, Vacation & RV Show in ’99, the RV Pavilion was packed with big-ticket items like RV satellites, tow hitches, and companies offering to install a solar array on your vehicle.

Since then, the Quartzsite Sports, Vacation & RV Show has boomed and last year alone it drew more than 150,000 attendees. It draws the snowbirds from around the US and Canada.

While in Quartzsite, check out the Hi Jolly Monument which honors the Arab camel driver, Hadji Ali, who took part in an unsuccessful 1850’s U.S. War Department attempt to use camels as beasts of burden in the desert.

Looking ahead to future years, the Quartzsite Sports, Vacation & RV Show will continue to grow and attract a more general crowd. Thanks to items like cheaper flat screen TVs, smart phones, and affordable solar arrays with charge controllers to power all your gizmos, it is easy to have all the comforts of home while you’re camping.

As RVing gets easier and more comfortable—and more boomers retire—even more people will dip their toes into the RV world, and what better place to do it than at Quartzsite?

As Quartzsite continues to grow and evolve, it will still be a wonderful place for RVers of all types to gather and relax with near perfect temperatures during the day and clear starlit skies at night.

Dates for the 32nd annual Quartzsite Sports, Vacation & RV Show are January 17-25, 2015, from 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

We’re going back to the Quartzsite Sports, Vacation & RV Show again this year!

Quartzsite is an experience not to be missed—and we think you’ll like it too!

Worth Pondering…

Nowhere on earth will you find such an assortment of “stuff” as you will at Quartzsite from mid-December to mid-February. As the saying goes, “If you can’t find it in Quartzsite, you won’t find it anywhere.”

Livin’ Lite & Ford Introduce Ford-branded RVs

Looking to spend some time exploring the countryside in the all-new 2015 F-150?

TOP-ford-truck-camperNow it’s possible to sleep comfortably inside a Ford-branded camper, thanks to recreational vehicle builder Livin’ Lite.

Livin’ Lite and Ford Motor Company have agreed to license a line of Ford-branded aluminum-constructed truck campers for the all-new aluminum-bodied 2015 F-150 pickup truck.

Beginning in 2013, Livin’ Lite began working with Ford designers to adopt design cues from the aluminum-body F-150 into their aluminum campers.

The 2015 F-150 is up to 700 pounds lighter than the 2014 truck, and Livin’ Lite campers are typically 30 percent lighter than the competition. This weight-saving combination is designed to improve fuel efficiency for RV customers.

The Ford truck camper will incorporate a new and unique fiberglass front nose cap. The exterior of the camper will be fiberglass with full-body paint to match the 2015 Ford F-150.

“I can’t tell you how excited we are to work with a company as prestigious as Ford and bring their iconic brand name back into the RV industry,” said Scott Tuttle, president of Livin’ Lite. “Ford believes enough in our unique aluminum construction to allow us to carry the ‘Built Ford Tough’ label, which says a lot.”

The debut Ford-branded camper model design will appear at the 52nd Annual National RV Trade Show, December 2-4 at the Kentucky Expo Center in Louisville, Kentucky.

Additional Ford truck campers are also planned. There will be a Ford F-series of campers to match Ford F-250 and F-350 trucks. The design lines will work with those models as well. All truck camper floor plans will work well as Ford truck campers.

Livin’ Lite plans to release other models in time for sale in 2015. The lineup of Ford-branded RVs will include tent campers, travel trailers, truck campers, toy haulers, and fifth wheels for sale through Livin’ Lite dealers.

In the 1970s, Ford had a dedicated RV division with a team of engineers and marketing professionals. In 1973, Ford debuted the American Road, a molded-fiberglass truck camper that was decades ahead of its time.

The 11.5 foot Ford American Road was designed to match Ford trucks and featured a basement with heated and insulated holding tanks, a full-booth face-to-face dinette, sprayed on urethane foam insulation, and a 100,000 mile, 40-degree below zero durability test.

Today, Livin’ Lite licenses Ford trademarks and is fully responsible for designing, engineering, and manufacturing Ford-branded recreational products with input from Ford Design.
