Airstream, the maker of the iconic silver-bullet travel trailers, and Mercedes-Benz introduced the all-new super-luxurious 2015 Autobahn Luxury Van, at the recent Mercedes-Benz Sprinter National Dealer Meeting.
Based on the updated Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, the Autobahn stays true to Airstream’s heritage of aircraft inspired design and innovation. The Autobahn offers a luxurious interior with ample space and handcrafted furnishings. Offering seating for eight, the Autobahn includes the advanced Airstream Smart Control System for an enjoyable passenger experience.
Through its ongoing collaboration with Mercedes-Benz, Airstream combines its signature quality and design with individualized comfort, convenience, and productivity in this new category-creating platform.
“Airstream continues to set the industry standard for unparalleled luxury travel, a strategy further enhanced by our partnership with Mercedes-Benz,” stated Airstream CEO and President Bob Wheeler.
“Whether your VIP is a professional client or family member, we are creating a new category that delivers an exclusive level of focus on individual passenger comfort and convenience.”
In an earlier unveiling Mercedes-Benz took the wraps off the updated Sprinter. The new model features modified bumpers and a prominent wedge-shaped grille. There’s also a revised hood, new headlights and a reduced ride height.
Interior changes are limited but include new upholstery and a thicker steering wheel.
Other highlights include a new gearshift lever, an upgraded audio system, and a Becker MAP PILOT navigation system.
The Sprinter can be equipped with a variety of four- and six-cylinder diesel engines that have outputs between 95 HP (70 kW) to 190 HP (140 kW). Customers can also order a supercharged 1.8-liter four-cylinder petrol or natural gas engine that develops 156 HP (115 kW).
On the safety front engineers added five new systems including Crosswind Assist, Collision Prevention Assist, Blind Spot Assist, Highbeam Assist, and Lane Keeping Assist. Crosswind Assist is standard, while the other systems are optional.
Aimed at private affluent customers as well as the commercial market, the 2015 Airstream Autobahn is described as a luxury van that delivers a “new standard in VIP travel.”
While the exterior is pretty plain, the cabin draws cues from private jets and features luxurious seating for up to eight people. The six rear seats are heated and come equipped with a power footrest. Each seating position also has a retractable desk and 120V / USB power outlets.
Other notable highlights include wood flooring, dual refrigerators, and an entertainment system that consists of a 32-inch LCD TV, a Blu-Ray player, and an Apple TV.
Power is provided by a 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 engine that develops 188 bhp (140 kW) and 325 lb-ft (440 Nm) of torque.
All this luxury doesn’t come cheap as the 2015 Airstream Autobahn Luxury Van is priced from $133,024.
