Motorhome and caravan payload is valuable so any weight savings that can be made by lighter accessories is important.
This is where the new Duvalite range from Duvalay comes in.
This range includes the first, fully recyclable memory foam mattress, which is claimed to save 37 percent on the weight of a standard motorhome/caravan mattress, reports Out and About Live.
The Duvalite mattress weighs in at around 9kg (20 pounds), as opposed to an average mattress at 15kg (33 pounds). The company also claims that if the memory fiber technology was used in the motorhome or caravan’s soft furnishings, the RV would be around 11.5kg (25 pounds) lighter.
Also, the mattress is 100 per cent recyclable, in line with the forthcoming European directives.
Benefits of the Duvalite technology are said to be improved comfort, better temperature harmony, and more effective dissipation of moisture.
The owners of Duvalay, Liz and Alan Colleran have signed an exclusive deal to use the memory fiber product within the leisure vehicle sector in the UK and Europe, Out and About Live reports.
“We are confident this new material will revolutionize the products used in the manufacture of interiors for caravans and motorhomes. This will lead to superior, lighter, and more environmentally friendly vans, said Liz Colleran.
“I believe our new Duvalite range will be a real hit with customers, following on from the success of our Duvalay products.”
Liz and Alan will be showcasing the new Duvalite technology at an open weekend in their new premises, in West Yorkshire, on September 29 and 30.
Customers are invited to see the new showroom and get a glimpse of the exciting new products from the Duvalay team.
Duvalay creates a range of memory foam mattresses and an innovative memory foam sleeping bag, popular with caravanners, holidaymakers, truckers, and boat enthusiasts.
The Duvalite range shot to fame in 2011 after its appearance on hit BBC2 show Dragons’ Den, where Liz and Alan Colleran secured an £80,000 investment for their unique sleeping bag product from the entrepreneur.
The award winning Duvalay combines optimum sleeping comfort with incredible ease of use. This clever product consists of a bottom pocket with memory foam and the top pocket houses your duvet. Simply unroll the Duvalay to use.
Despite the economic downturn, figures at Duvalay are up ten per cent already this year and they now employ 15 staff.
Prices range from £99.95 (190cm x 66cm x 2.5cm; roll size 29cm diameter x 66cm long) to £154.95 (190cm x 66cm x 5cm; roll size 52cm diameter x 66cm long).
Where did memory foam come from?
Memory foam was developed with the aid of funding from NASA’s Ames Research Centre in the early 1970s. The project was initiated to devise a material that would protect astronauts from the overwhelming G-forces encountered whilst taking off and landing.
They developed a new type of foam system called “Visco-elastic” foam. This new foam had the ability to distribute the loads exerted onto the body of the astronaut more evenly reducing pressure in localized areas.
Should I have a 2.5cm, 5cm, or 7.5cm thick mattress topper?
Duvalay only supplies 2.5cm mattress toppers for situations where it is required to be rolled and stored when not in use. The 2.5cm mattress toppers roll to the smallest size and are the ideal choice if space is at a premium. These 2.5cm toppers are only made from our Gold Luxury range.
If the mattress topper is for your home bed, a fixed bed in a caravan or motorhome, or you have more space to store slightly larger roll then the 5cm mattress toppers will offer more comfort especially the Comfort and Luxury range.
Duvalay does not supply 7.5cm thick toppers because it is far more important to choose quality memory foam than a thicker mattress topper.
Other products for caravans and motorhomes include:
